Just curious, did Larry Porter claim racism after he was fired at Memphis after 2 seasons

Not that I can recall. As far as I know, he just hurried up and got another job as quickly as he could and didn't really comment too much on his dismissal.

Colorado is taking quite a PR hit on this firing..It was just on CNN..Agree or disagree, right or wrong it will not be good for recruiting and will put a spotlight on any coach they hire..

Thats what they get for hiring him because of his race.

bah. hire a good coach, put some money into the program, win some games, and they'll be ok.

The point is... Who cares who she likes? She's an adult. Black, White who cares?

You seemed too, until you were proven wrong.

Yeah, standard exit stuff. He didn't prolong it though. He got on with ASU pretty quickly after Todd Graham went there.

From his comments you could tell he didn't want to say anything that would make him toxic to future employers.

5, there IS a double standard, the stats on what Embree said don't lie. I had never realized it before, but it's true.
The question is how do we change it? Don't think it can be legislated like the NFL, so it may always be like this.

The lesson should be "Don't hire a coach who is out of his depth."

Head coaches at minor programs should at least have experience as an OC or DC at some level.

Head coaches at a major program should preferably have experience as head coach at a minor program or extensive experience as an OC or DC at a major program a la Pelini, Jimbo, Muschamp, etc.

A lot of the black coaches who didn't get new head coaching positions tended to be ones like Embree and Larry Porter who were career position coaches.

Karl Dorrell is the major exception to this, having extensive OC experience, but I'd say part of the problem was that UCLA was his first head coaching position and his cross-town rivals for talent were USC at the height of their dynasty.

To sum it up, you tend to get good results from having a well-seasoned coach who has worked his way up through the chain on one side of the ball or another.

When you try to skip someone ahead of their experience, it becomes a big gamble. If it pays off, it pays off. More often, it turns into a bust and the coach in question becomes unemployable.

It's more reasonable to suggest that black position coaches get more opportunities at being OCs or DCs than to suggest those same position coaches jump all the way up to head coach without the experience to let them succeed.
