Obviously this will have some impact on Tom Herman's decision, to what degree, is anyone's guess

Sources confirmed Wednesday that pretty much all the options are on the table, including the possibility of football-only membership with Houston and BYU the most likely members. The sources also confirmed that expansion has gone from likelihood about six weeks ago to maybe a 1-in-3 chance

I predicted no expansion.

I'll believe it when I see it.

They'll just announce they're staying at 10 teams.

UT knows that Houston getting in the Big 12 will make Herman more expensive... so UH doesn't get in. At the very least they will decide not to decide this year.

Agree Texas has to be smart about it and either reject UH or postpone it until after they hire Herman.

This whole thing just seems weird. I've been trying to follow it for the past 3 months or so.
It appears to have gone from, "We are going to expand. We just don't know if it will be 12 or 14 or 16 and we don't know which teams we will add. But, we are expanding" to "Well, we might expand, but more likely, we won't."
Just my hunch, but I think the main reason for the change is BYU. I suspect that BYU was a lock and they were deciding on the other team or teams and the the LGBT community got involved and several schools are concerned about the PC backlash they will get if they invite BYU.
Just my hunch, again, but I suspect that there is hardball being played (by OU?) saying, "If you don't take BYU, we aren't voting for anybody.
I also suspect that the TX political machine (state government, not university) has gotten invovled and is demanding Houston be one of the schools.
It could be that there are two factions in the conference, one faction wanting Houston and not BYU and the other faction demanding BYU or nothing.
Will be interesting to see what happens next Monday.
But, whatever happens, Tom Herman is about to get a huge pay raise come December. LSU, TX or somebody is gonna back the Brink's trucks (plural) up to his garage.

I think Herman is gone regardless of what happens here.
You aren't dropping games to Navy at UT or LSU.

Saban coached teams have lost home games to UAB(LSU) and ULM(Bama).

Correct. Herman's not staying at Houston just because they get into the Big 12.

just one time.. and you dont think a booster can match that donation youre crazy...you are still getting your arse handed to you everygame because youre in a better conference, its easy to get up for one or two games and play the underdog role.. its the only thing that makes me nervous about him..

Along with any expansion, I imagine the Big 12 schools want all the schools to extend the GOR. It appears Oklahoma and Texas are hesitant to extend their GOR, making the other schools suspicious of them.
My guess is that the two schools want to keep their options open.

$5M one time bonus and a $2.5M annual salary increase to $5.5M. If Houston gets in, then it's going to take $6M+ per year to lure him away. Shouldn't be a problem for Texas or LSU or USC, but that's a lot of jack for a guy with soon to be 2 years of coaching experience and loses to Uconn and Navy.

i dont think that is correct bama

Yeah. It's actually that the $5M bonus is paid in 2 years of $2.5M, which would make his salary in those two years $5.5M. It isn't a bonus AND the increase.

IMO, the opportunity to coach at an elite school, in the SEC, with a wealth of recruits to pick from would trump being at Houston and in the Big 12. I don't buy for a minute that his decision to stay is contingent on Houston making it into the Big 12. I know he has money tied to it but the amount of money he can make long term in the SEC is worth leaving 5mil on the table.

If it gets denied and we get Herman, my dick is going to get quite an expansion.
