According to AL.com, an early candidate of interest to replace Pelini is current Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom, whom Orgeron is reportedly a big fan of.

I pray this has no merit

Why? He’s a quality DC that made arky at least a decent opponent this year.

He would likely do a great job here. He improved an Arkansas defense that doesn’t have near the talent that we do, and did it without a real off-season. I think he would get us back on track very quickly.

42 against A&M
63 against UF
50 against Missouri
52 against Bama

106th in total defense

His claim to fame was holding ole miss in check.

I’m not hating on him, Arky was much improved. I’ll support who’s the hire is. Just was optimistic about Freeman but I believe that ship has sailed.

I guess I just have to keep repeating this.

Rosters matter.

Can you name an Arkansas defensive player? Is there an Arkansas player that was higher than a mid-tier 3*?

Agreed

Take a garbage roster and turn it into a below average defense, and I'll give you props.

Take a garbage roster and turn it into a god-awful defense, sorry, but no.

Anyone who knows football and actually watched could see that they were much better than the previous season.

Against UGA & OM, sure.

The other 8 teams they played, not so much.

You saying you watch Arkansas games? Why would you do that to yourself?

He held Auburn to 27 at JHS. How did LSU do against them?

Trolling aside our defense isn't as devoid of talent as everyone makes it out to be. Front seven is just thin. It's why we have played so much drop 8. It suits the talent we have which is what you want out of a DC.

I seriously doubt he jumps. O came after him last year and he stayed. Not sure why he would bail now if he didn't last year. He has more talent and an easier schedule coming next year.

You could pay him 3 mil a year and it would be a tiny raise since he is still getting supplemented by the Mizzou buyout. So money isn't really gonna be part of the reasoning unless you are making him the highest paid DC in the country by far.

People who make this comments obviously don't watch other teams play. Odom would do good here with much better talent. I doubt he's someone LSU is going to run hard for unless they whiff on several other big names but he'd be a solid hire if you can't really go elsewhere, imo.
