I'm in the minority about not thinking Saban will be coaching much longer (2-3 years from retirement) & he is delegating much more at this point in his career than he did at any other stop especially to Kirby & even with things as important as staff hires, & examples are Napier (who's been KILLING it) & taking back Lance Thompson, both good friends of Kirby

Bama will still be fine with Kirby UA was still prominent before Saban & will continue

He mostly means LA kids, I think

Fine? Sure. Dominant like they are now? Nah.

Plus, we wouldn't have to play him every year.

Yeah, but with the playoff system, it's reasonable to speculate the road to an National Championship would likely go through Saban often.

I concur... in fact if Saban does haul arse to TX I bet I know a couple of NELA recruits who might be newly uncommitted.

other than not playing having to play him every year, yeah, it would be horrible for LSU and for the rest of college football.

With how weak the Big 12 is, he would have an even easier path to the NC every year

and he would get all the top Texas kids, and still poach some top LA talent

At least we'd still get our shot and not be out of it early on

Like Bucc said, I don't see him coaching much longer, so I'd feel better if he was out of the SEC.

1. He can only sign 25 a year, give or take a few. There are is an absurd amount of talent in TX, and he can't get them all. If UT and A&M get every single Texas recruit they want, there are still tons of great players available.

2. He won't be as motivated to poach LA, because of the talent in his own backyard, and LSU won't be a conference rival anymore. It's more to his benefit to steal a recruit from Baylor or OU.

3. We wouldn't play him in the regular season any more. Whoever replaces him at Bama won't be any better, and will almost surely be a step down.

4. For the posters who say "he gets anybody he wants in LA," that is objectively false. He whiffs on more than he gets. He will whiff on more than he gets this year.

I'm concerned with Saban at Texas as well to be honest with regards to recruiting tbh

It only takes one bad hire to destroy all that he built at BAMA. Most people don't understand how delicate a football program can be.

We're no worse off with him at TX than at Bama, and we don't have to play him every year.

LSU gets a lot of Texas recruits, and with Texas being down right now, it's certainly helps

you don't think if Saban brought Texas back to winning, that LSU's Texas recruiting would suffer?

So true. Everyone said USC would not miss a beat because of their recruiting when Carroll left. They had like 7-8 5* in one class.

Exactly. Even a seemingly slam dunk hire is not guaranteed. You can't project with 100% accuracy that a guy will win at his next job, no matter what the resume. Hell, Saban might well flop at UT. It's a crapshoot. You want your rivals to change coaches as often as possible. Lack of continuity is a program killer.

A strong Texas will sign 20 kids a year out of Texas. No need to dip into Louisiana as much as he is now.

While this is all true, Saban has built as solid a foundation of a program possible here at LSU and at Alabama. Yeah, some dickhead hire could frick it up but I think it's more likely Alabama will continue to be a premier program post Saban.

Maybe so, but you may want to keep in the back of your mind of the success, or the lack thereof, of recent Saban disciples.
