And I think that may matter to him these days. All the comments he and his wife made were made for a reason. Here's the only "scoop" I really have. Saban told the mother of a recruit he wasn't going anywhere just 2 weeks ago. I know his word doesn't mean much to most people but it would be a special kind of fricked up to be pulling shite like that.

Saban's word already means nothing

Well obviously the public's opinion of him is Saban's #1 priority.

All the free publicity is doing nothing but solidifying him as some sort of god in recruits eyes!!!! It's sick, but the dude is only gaining power with every day!!

i think it comes down to two things, 1) his age and 2) why make a lateral move? Every stop in his career made at least some sort of logical sense at the time. But now it's literally moving from one college power to another just to do it. That doesn't make any sense at all.

If the rumors about some bad commercial investments (to the tune of $20M) are true, then it all makes sense. "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." 1 Timothy 6:10.

The shattering of what credibility he has left, what he's tried to repair since leaving Miami, is the only reason I think he might stay. I don't think his ego will let another move tarnish his legacy. I don't believe he likes being branded a liar and a turncoat.

People are reading too much into this. When 60 minutes asked, what was he supposed to say? "Yes I lied on purpose so what".... I don't think so. Also when asked in general terms about his future in interviews what do you expect him to say.? "I'm Ok here but would jump ship if certain jobs come open".. Not very smart.

To this point he is doing the right thing in this situation. He can't comment on a job that is not even officially open.

Agreed, but not for reasons stated in OP.

1) This happens all the time, and has happened with Saban and just about every other CFB coach.

2) It will be a "statement" that the UT job is "better" than Bama.

3) It will be a "statement" that the UT fanbase is "better" than Bama's.

4) It will be a "statement" that football in Texas is "better" than football in Alabama.

5) It will also negatively effect LSU's recruiting in Texas (guess we'll need to give up more home games).

A coach will tell a recruit he not leaving then catch the next plane to greener pastors and more money. It's just the way it is. besides 2 weeks is alot of time to change your mind and accept a new job.

I disagree that it's a lateral move, no flame intended. LSU to Bama (with a detour in Miami) was a lateral move. He literally left, and when the NFL didn't play nice, he went back to his safe zone. While the prestige of the program is on par with Bama, Texas is a gold mine for recruits, and they're willing to give him every co-ed and dollar in Texas to put them back into contention. He'll be in a better situation in an easier conference than he was at Bama, and if the rumors are true about what they're willing to pay, that's a decent chunk of change.

I won't think any more or less of him if he leaves for Texas. It's par the course for this cat.

Kirk Herbstreit on rumors of Nick Saban coming to Texas: 'There's no chance'

On rumors about Nick Saban coming to Texas:

“There’s no chance. No chance of that happening. Nick Saban will work TV sitting next to us on our set before he’ll be the head coach at Texas … He’ll be at Alabama for another five years, and then he’ll be working TV after that … I know Nick Saban better than anybody. It’s not going to happen.”

Anybody at ESPN knows to deflect this off of Saban if they ever want another interview with the man! Especially Herbstreet! The media is so scared of Saban. Do you really think anyone has the balls to ask him a question other than us. That is there industry and if they want to have a long career and access to coaches ask pansy questions

With respect to predictions do the gameday guys look at herbie like the OT looks at PJ?

So, he's definitely going to Texas then? Did the Herbs just force another SEC coach's hand on a career choice just to spite him?
