I think it should be Charlie Strong or Kirby Smart. Honestly, I think I would pick Charlie Strong because of his head coaching experience and I am curious if Smart's success is due to coaching under Saban. If Saban was an offensive guru I would think otherwise but that isn't the case.

While I think Kevin Sumlin is a very capable coach, he would be good if A&M was still in the big XII. He is an offensive guy and if A&M is to compete they are going to need a defensive mind.

Smart. Strong would be in over his head in the SECW.

I think Strong is better. Strong had amazing D's under an offensive coach. He was a great recruiter at UF. He overachieved this year big time with a team that had lost a lot of seniors and finished 5-1 down the stretch.

It's not a knock on Smart. He's just too unknown to trust for a move of this magnitude.

If Les left LSU I would like Smart to replace. I would trust him to maintain an already well oiled machine. A&M needs a master mechanic for what we have gotten ourselves into

many of us aren't fans of having a DC who works under a DC to cut his teeth in our first year in the SEC West. Not saying he couldnt be great, but Let him be a HC elswhere so we can better guage his potential.

Charly Strong was passed over and over and over for coaching positions while he was a DC at florida before Louisville. Krag had to kick off alot of thugs that Petrino recruited at Louisville so it took him too long( and was subsequently fired for it), but the talent he brought in has kept Strong above water. I beleive Strong will be exposed in a few years.

The real defensive Guru on that Florida staff was Greg Mattison (who I wanted as DC when Sherman was hired). Look what he has done with Michigan's defense in 1 year.

Art Briles. He's from Texas, he knows Texas, he knows Houston, he can recruit the area, he put Houston and Baylor back on the map. And unless he is just in love with Baylor and wouldn't ever leave, I think it might be possible to get him.

You say in one thread a coach needs to "get" A&M and then say Art Briles?

You really do go to iTT don't you

The Top Brass are swinging from the Hip these days Dr. Vinny. I know Art is a great coach and has a very good rapport with the college and high school coaches. But when I analyze both Sumlin and Briles i see very little difference in their coaching abilities and their demeanor. Sumlin wins out in my mind for various reasons, one is that he was successful at running a pro-style offense at OU. Briles drops way low because of the open wounds between Baylor and A&M. not much fan/donor support. Baylor as a school is a irrelevant but Briles is a pretty good coach.

Kevin sumlin went 5-7 without Keenum. And it was holgerson who groomed him. Keenum is pretty much a finished product this year. I think he's a pretty big risk, especially since he'd be bringing a wide open attack to a division with the two best defenses in cfb for the next few years.

Is sumlin supposed to be a great recruiter? That's a must for a&m.

I know all about Art Briles and that he coached at Tech and that he wouldn't let RG3 answer a question about A&M. And he was a puppet in the Baylor suing crap. Aggies are just butt hurt that Baylor was the one trying to stop it, when it was actually UT pulling the strings.

Sumlin will recruit well at A&M. There is really no reason he won't unless he is a gigantic dickhead.

I really hate defending a coaching hire but Sumlin not only lost Kennum but also his 2nd and 3rd string Qb during the season to injury. I'm not sure how long the 4th string was playing though.

Coached at Tech is a non-issue

Gary Blair is a tech grad and now that Sherman is gone is the most loved man in the athletic department

I've respected the way Texas Tech handled the whole ordeal. We both know who was orchestrating that shite show, even though Kenneth Starr went a a little rogue retard at the end.

I'm afraid Tubberville is past his prime as you well know. Get Briles. Closest thing to Leach but he's not a dick. love Leach though.

I'm out.peace.
