I don't think this is anything most people didn't figure out; it just confirms the suspicions.

LINK

quote:

Though Kiffin’s name was brought up for multiple jobs across the last three years, nearly all of it was speculation and smoke rather than genuine interest in him. One person with knowledge of the matter, who had investigated Kiffin for a job, said reference calls to people who worked at USC and Tennessee basically rendered him unhireable.

Essentially, he had to take this job to try and repair his reputation. It was the only shot he had.

wonder if O ever thought Kiffin was coming, or if he just helped Kiffin get a job by leaking that he wanted Kiffin as an OC, basically providing Kiffin leverage

The more we get into this thing, the more I think it was this. On the flip side, if O leveraged his new job to help a friend thats idiotic. This guy probably shouldn't have been hired and the idea that he could use that to help his buddy is absolutely asinine.

It's pretty obvious what the hell I meant

If the O experiment doesnt work out in the next 3 years, and Kiffin has done well at FAU at not only winning games but also repairing his image, it'd be a great special teams coordinator hire for LSU

They were debating this on 104.5 this morning as to whether Kiffin played LSU (and O) or not.

Sure seems like he did to me. Kept stringing us along until he got a HC offer.

LSU offering the QB from Hawaii seems the best proof of this to me. No way we do that without Kiffins input.

winning at FAU isn't going to overcome years of being a failure douche as a HC.

Wrong. Winning cures just about everything.

Same with O. If we wins consistently at LSU, his Ole Miss past will be forgotten.

I don't know.

Some reports say Houston was willing to overlook those issues this year except the sides couldn't get past buyout language.

If he wins, and runs a good show, in two years someone bigger will be willing to give him a shot.

Winning cures all.

I just don't think winning at FAU is going to get him back to a major job if people are still looking at UT and USC and saying no after 3 SECC & NC with 3 different QBs.

like Temple or something? UCF? FAU is a bottom 10 job.

I hope he's successful at least in recruiting playerscaway from UF.

Beaver teeth suddenly has some serious competition in Florida.

I'd bet my house that Kiffin will land a Power5 HC job within 3 years if he does well at FAU (assuming he keeps his nose clean and shows maturity).

Yes. He wont step back up to the top next.

but if he wins, and does it right, he will get a bigger shot in two years.

Schools are desperate to win now.

Many including me believe this is the main reason Miles is gone from LSU - loyalty to an old friend recovering from prostate cancer in his twilight years of coaching - winning would have cured that situation too but luck and time ran out in close games early and no evidence of consistent QB and offensive play.

I think he took more risk to get a power 5 job by going to FAU. If he stays at Bama or goes to LSU and he does well for a year or two some power 5 school would give him a shot.

FAU just seems like more risk to me and doesn't make much sense. I think saban had a hand in him going to FAU vs LSU.

If Kiffin is a failure at HC

UT:

7-6

usc(while on probation):

8-5
10-2
7-6
3-2

28-15 overall

what does that make Coach O? A colossal all time worst failure?

OM
3-8
4-8
3-9

usc(interim)
6-2

lsu(interim)
5-2

Overall
21-29
