Jim Harbaugh's compensation is in the form of an annual life insurance premium payment by the university.

How it works is Harbaugh owns this insurance policy.

If he is coaching the team on Dec. 6 of each year from 2016 through 2021, Michigan makes the $2 million annual premium payment to the insurance company.

Then, because Harbaugh owns the policy, he can take withdrawals or loans from the policy.

The university will get its money back, without interest, when Harbaugh dies. There are other scenarios under which U-M would get its money back: If the policy is surrendered or cancelled prior to Harbaugh's death or the money would come from Harbaugh if he exercises his option to terminate the entire insurance arrangement in the event that his employment contract is terminated.

What this tells me is that Clemson better step the frick up because no way he should be getting paid less than stoops or strong or even fisher and getting just 200k more than Mullen, are you fricking kidding LOL that is a joke.

sounds like a whole life policy. i'm not an agent, but i plan for my family's future "in case I don't make it home one night" as the insurance guys like to say.

I believe you can, once it reaches a certain amount, pull out of the policy whatever dollar amount you've put in and the payout upon death is lessened by whatever amount you've yet to pay back. could be wrong though as i obviously haven't seen his policy.

They had to in order to make paying that much for a coach palatable.

Need to be willing to give Jimbo 6.5. Step up to the plate if you want to be an elite program.

And the most overpaid coach in America continues to be Ol' Kirk...

Nope, not strange at all. Life insurance is used a lot in business. Several different options for creative compensation plus protecting the company/university as well. The average person working a job might not have or see the need but trust me this happens ALOT!

Good for Michigan/Harbaugh for being creative.

So finishing 1st in the conference at San Diego 2 years in conference and 1st in the NFC West 2 straight years doesn't count as conference titles?

Pony Up then.........

quote:

Fisher's buyout would be a little more than $33 million according to the report, making him an expensive proposition if another school would be interested in him as a coaching candidate.
