According to his comments in the huddle, Charlie was talking about Kirby Smart on Friday.

He also clarified his statement that the candidate was "still coaching." Said it didn't mean he was coaching in the Playoffs or National Championship game, just that he was not OUT of coaching this past season.

We are days closer to the hiring. I can feel it coming.
Is this what one refers to as "a rumbling"?

Charles Hanagriff
Now that his name is out there, I'll confirm the guy I was referencing on Friday was Kriby Smart. The reason I had to protect my source was that I was told his name getting out could be a deal breaker, or at the very least Alabama would counter and drive up the price. The reason he is interested in the job is allegedly he feels like he won't get any credit as long as he is on Saban's staff, and he needs to branch out on his own. He got almost no interest in any openings this year, and Miles would let him run the defense at LSU. He allegedly feels like McIlwain and Muschamp both got increased interest as soon as they left Saban's staff, and that this would be his best route to a head job. That's why he would consider a lateral move. I continue to be told that no deal is done with anybody.

Did someone downvote my post saying what Charlie said in the huddle?

Smart runs a 3-4. Would take us 2-3 years to transition. We have a top notch 4-3 defense this year. I think it would be a good hire, if we already had the personnel for a 3-4.

Maybe, but they've been using 4 down linemen lately, primarily for the spread teams.

No one knows what Smart runs.

Smart stays here for 1 or 2 years then leaves for a HC job... I'll pass

Do you know what crawfishin means? If this isn't the guy Charlie was talking about, all he has to do is say it's someone else.

Hanagriff is full of shite.
He specifically said to "Look past the name" and read the resume.
That does not apply to Smart. He is crawfishing in an attempt to save face.

OK, but I thought he said (on Friday) "don't look at the name, look at the resume", or something like that. Everybody knows Kirby Smart. I'm not saying he would be a bad hire, but that name doesn't seem to match his Friday comments.

Bingo. Smart would be as big a name as there is out there at DC. Why would anyone have to look past the name to accept him?

Yep. For some reason, Hannagriff didn't expect people to question his "info". I think it's pretty clear that he's trying to back off his statements. That could be because he made it up in the first place...or it has become clear to him that the info he received was clearly wrong.
I really thought more of Hanagriff than that. Pretty surprised.

No, it fits perfectly. His "ignore the name" is spot on.

In the huddle, Charlie said many believe Saban runs the entire defense there and might consider Smart a puppet.

Thank you.
Are the rest of y'all missing it? The "look past the name and only at the resume" works perfectly for Smart. If you ignore the fact that he works under Saban at Alabama and only look at the stats from all the defenses he's been in charge of, it works perfectly.
