Does anyone think he regrets opting out now? I get he's $4 million richer because of it and doesn't even need to work this year, but I'm sure he thought he would be able to snag one of the several HC jobs that were available.

Will he ever be a head coach again?

My guess is the way he did that did not sit well with all the owners. He may have just blackballed himself from ever being a head NFL coach again!

say he gets the OC job with the Jaguars. There isn't really anywhere that group can go but up.

-young QB
-young WR's (Lee, Allen Robinson)
- no feature RB

-they still need some help on the O-line

i mean if he could coach up the group I'm sure that would get a lot of attention and he could get another head coaching opportunity down the road?

I'm not sure why owners would have a problem with it. He obviously didn't see eye to eye with the new owners and the new owners didn't hire him.

This. Coaches get axed all the time after front office changes, sometimes without any real reason.

No kidding. One doesn't simply walk out on an NFL head coaching gig with the end goal being the Jaguars OC job. Sounds like he figured he'd be a shoe-in for either the Jets or Bears.

Who knows, maybe he just comes off as a colossal a-hole, which might hurt him going forward. Look at Greg Schiano -- very good college coach, but no college or pro team seems to want anything to do with him after way he carried himself at Rutgers and in Tampa.

Terribly short-sighted move in my opinion. There are only 32 NFL Head Coaching jobs and they should be treated as such. You don't leave a job voluntarily unless you are absolutely sure you have another one signed, sealed, and delivered.

Marrone getting interviews with Denver....... Might be his only HC chance.

Well the bright side for him is he will still be getting paid like an NFL head coach without the extra work and pressure. He needs to learn how to interview apparently

True, but the NFL is very much a "what have you done lately" league. Retreads always seem to get another chance because they've gone somewhere post-firing/post-resignation and done well as a coordinator, and being the Jaguars' OC wouldn't exactly set him up for success.

I wonder if/why jimmy sexton advised him to do it this way.

@AdamSchefter: Former Bills HC Doug Marrone cancelled his Denver HC interview scheduled for Saturday; wants to wait to see what happens with Gary Kubiak.
This seems dumb.
