Do today's youth understand the concept of commitment?

I know this is not a recruiting board but the way kids have come to understand commitment really fascinates me. "I'm 100% committed but I am keeping my options open." "I fell in love with the place and I have a special relationship with the coaches. I am going to weigh my options and I could see myself going anywhere."
What does commitment mean to the next generation?
I see a lot of the same in the coaching profession.

Have you ever promised a girl you'd call her after you've fricked her, and then never done it?

please...in the era where it's possible for a team to have 5 different offensive coordinators during a kid's college career....kids are as loyal as coaches...which is to say not one bit.

You have to do what's best for you. If a better player commits to your school, that could change things. So does a coaching change.

Maybe when coaches start being a bit loyal then maybe we can talk about this matter.

I agree with you but also think that the recruiting scene is so crooked that you have to look out for yourself and your future

When a kid is ready to sign let him sign and eliminate NSD!!

As a parent, I'd encourage my kid to not commit to any school until they were 100% sure that is where they would want to go. I'd tell them that I wouldn't want them taking any visits after they gave a coach their word. (That would mean that I would suggest they didn't commit/sign until NSD unless they were enrolling early.)
That being said, I do agree with others in that some coaches are quick to process recruits after they have offered them a scholarship or even stepped on campus during the recruiting season if they have an opportunity to get a "better" player. It has happened at many schools and seems to be getting worse. The schools and coaches are definitely partially responsible for creating these types of situations where players decommit or flip on signing day, etc.
When a player does commit to a school, other schools continue to recruit them and ENCOURAGE them to go against their word and go to their school. It is what it is.

Damn, how many 40 and 50 year olds understand the commitment process on anything. It is what it is.

Explain to me why Butch Jones pulled a scholly from that DE to make room for another kid.
Why does Saban pull schollys from high school kids and college athletes to make room for other recruits every year.
Why should a kid be loyal to a school when the coach at that school isn't necessarily loyal to them.
It's a two way street, these kids see what's happening to other recruits and are merely protecting themselves.
