Considering the competition that is the Big 12 north, with Mizzou and Kansas now appearing to build some strength, and the dominance that Okie presents yearly, I really wonder whether Bo Pellini can make Nebraska a dominating team again.

What do you guys think his chances are that he:

1- Reaches a higher BCS ranking than Saban or Petrino within the first 2 years

2- Stays at Nebraska longer than either Saban or Patrino stay at their jobs

3- Wins a National Championship at Nebraska within 5 years

He'll have to recruit, he'll have to get Nebraska to create a defense that can stop the Spread cold (maybe his "success" against Tebow gave him an edge?).... and he'll have to let his Offensive Coordinator coach...

I don't know dude. This isn't an original thought here (read it on the Rant somewhere from somebody) but when Neb. was in it's heyday, their players came from everywhere but Nebraska. I don't know how well they will be able to recruit on a national level now with so many other schools having better programs. I say give him 4 years to see where he can go.

I think he will turn it around and compete for Big 12 titles but it will take 3-5 yrs (depending on whether Mizzou and Kansas can sustain success).

It will take some time but I think Bo will turn the NU's program around. I dont know about winning NC but he will bring them back to 9 and 10 win seasons. Everyone keeps talking about Mizzou and Kansas....but Texas and OU is still the teams to beat in the Big 12. I will be happy getting to a bowl every year and I think Bo can do that....Go Big Red.....

Depends on how you count "higher BCS ranking." The BCS only ranks the top 25, and it's not very likely that any of the three will make that cut in the next two years. But if you expand the projected rankings out to include all three teams, then I would say very likely. Both of the other two have a lot more tough teams on their schedule and are likely to rack up more losses than Pelini will if he improves Nebraska any noticeable amount. And he is ideally suited to do so, since their most glaring flaw is an absolutely abysmal defense. He should be able to make it at least bad right off the bat, which would be a dramatic improvement.

Has way too much to do with wins and losses to adequately predict now. I'd guess he will have more slack than either of them, but that's just a guess.

Highly doubtful. Though clearly not the SEC, the Big XII is a legit conference. And with both OU and Texas in the conference, getting over that hump and into the National Title game will take a lot of building and a lot of luck. It would be asking a LOT to get there in 5 years.

It wouldn't surprise me to see his team in the hunt late into the season 4 or 5 years from now. But future schedules (i.e., missing Texas and/or OU until a potential Big XII Championship Game matchup) will have a lot to do with that as well.

I think so

Not sure...do not think so but who knows. If he can manage some good years, you may find that all of sudden the recruits want to go to Nebraska for its tradition as well. Then it may be possible

Playing catch up in a tough conference. It won't be easy.

I have heard... just heard... he is not a "Charismatic recruiter". All big name recruits get won or lost by the HC. I think he needs to prove the rumor wrong or find a new gear in recruiting.

I hope I'm wrong because I'd like for a former LSU guy to do well, but I just do not see Pelini being successful as a head coach, especially at Nebraska.

He's not very media savvy, he supposedly doesn't like to (or is not very good at) recruiting, and his X's and O's leave quite a bit to be desired at times. Not to mention he is stubborn enough that I can definitely see him failing in the process of hiring top-notch assistants as there is turnover. You have to do two things to become a solid head coach in college: recruit and hire quality assistants. If he can't do those two things (and my opinion is that he can't do either), he'll fail at Nebraska.

I just don't think he'll do very well in Nebraska and they'll run him out of town within four years.

Pellini isn't going to do shite. He's gonna run a pussy cover 2 and let junk big 12 qb's pass on him like what Casey Dick did. Hi my name is bo pellini I let garbage casey dick pass on me at will.

1.) Not a chance
2.) God only Knows
3.) Not a chance

Pellini's in a very difficult position. There is some strong momentum in the Big 12 North with the emergence of Missouri and Kansas. Also, I am a huge fan of Ron Prince and Dan Hawkins. For those intersted, watch Hawkins beat Saban with very similar talent situations.

I seem to remember back when Nebraska was really good and was thumping LSU in bowl games on a regular basis (82 Orange, 84 & 86 Sugar) that their O- and D-lines were all huge, corn-fed beasts from Nebraska, and most of their skill guys (Gill and Rozier come immediately to mind) were from out of state.

So if BP can recruit the state well, he should be able to build a good foundation. He'll need to win with this foundation to start getting the studs who are now going to the elite schools.

Just my $0.02.

I think everyone is overlooking the ace Neb has up their sleeves. Tom Osborne! Until the program is up and running Tom will be running the show with Bo as a puppet figure head. TO is going to do all the hiring, organize the recruiting etc. Bo has a good defensive resume. No matter what LSU fans feel Bo will have a decent Defense soon. The big question is with TO's age how long will he last as the man behind the curtain?

I would say the team will struggle but improve next year and be competitive in the Big 12 North the next year. MNC who the hell knows!

Have you guys checked out the recruiting numbers?

The talent is there in Nebraska, especially on offense. The 'team first' attitude has been what's missing. I think Pellini has a moderately good chance of turning the program around.
