***SPOILERS***
Carl ran off after the whisperer chick they captured. She's apparently the daughter of the leader of the whisperers. The leader goes by "Alpha."
Maggie hangs the guy behind the plot to poison her.
Rick's carnival starts up. Maggie tells Rick about the hanging, and also about Carl running off to the whisperers. Rick immediately leaves to look for Carl, along with a small team. Meanwhile, Alpha is doing reconnaissance at the Carnival to find out about Rick's civilization.
Rick shows up at Alpha's camp to confront her. He is taken to the camp by some whisperers and then made to wait until she returns. Alpha then reveals to him that she and her people have a huge herd available (she shows it to him) and are ready to unleash it on Rick's people if they come into whisperer territory again.
The rest of this is spoilers from the most recent issue so if you plan to read that I suggest you skip the next paragraphs.
Alpha asks Rick to take her daughter with him because she can't give her the life she deserves and then makes a big scene acting like she's disowning her daughter. Also admits to allowing rapes and other horrors to occur in their group. Says it makes them strong.
Rick and Carl leave with the daughter (her name is escaping me) and then they discover how Alpha is marking her territory line: she had kidnapped numerous members of the community during the Carnival and has placed their reanimated heads on sticks along what she has decided is her territory. Among the dead are many minor characters, as well as Rosita and Ezekial. I believe the guy who was persistently hitting on Maggie was also among the dead. All together it seemed like at least 20 people who were mentioned. Maybe more who weren't mentioned. This issue ended with Andrea asking Rick, "What now?" Michonne can be seen visibly shaken by the death of Ezekial. Rick is also visibly distraught. He just keeps asking "Why?" over and over.

I don't know if that's the best idea. Alpha seemed to indicate the way to become Alpha is to overthrow the previous Alpha, and I'm sure that involves merely killing the previous Alpha. Obviously that would involve also gaining the trust of your people so someone else doesn't come in and kill you immediately after, but that doesn't seem like a difficult task for someone like Negan.
I think unleashing Negan would simply give Negan a new army and a herd of walkers.

Just got all caught up with the comic, definitely think negan is gonna end up playing a role somehow in this whole thing by the end of it. Looks like another war on the horizon.
Also, there were members from every community killed, so everyone is gonna be all about fighting the whisperers.
