I'm currently on a re-read of the first two books and I wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts or theories on what is to come in book 3. I haven't had as much thought on this series as I have with ASOIAF, but I think there is enough there to have a worthwhile discussion if enough people have read the books.

I won't toss out theories in this post, just some questions in the hope to get this thread going. (Also, I apologize if I misspell any names of people or places. I've actually been listening to the audiobooks so I haven't seen many names spelled out.)

- What's the deal with the doors? University? Lackless? Door of Stone with the moon guy?

-Who is Denna's patron, "Master Ash"?

-What caused Kvothe to become Kote?

-Have we already unknowingly met any of the Amyr or Chandrian? If so, who?

-Who is Auri, really?

-Who is Denna?

-Is Kvothe's mother a Lackless?

-What did Kvothe do to cause the current war? Kill the/a king, or is there more to it?

-Who is the king that Kvothe kills? The current king? Ambrose?

-I've read a couple articles stating that Rothfuss said Kvothe's story will end with book 3, but he may write other books about the world. So will book 3 end with how Kvothe gets to the inn and another book may dive into the current war or will we see more of the present day Kote in this book?

I probably won't read book 3...

Read the first two when they came out. It was rumored that Rothfuss already had book three in the can and it was supposed to be out in 2012. Well, it's now 6 years since the last book and all he seems to do instead of writing is working on some hokey left wing charity. F that guy...

I've waited so long to read book 3 that I don't remember any of the stuff you're asking about.

Ya, I read Rothfuss is now blaming Trump being elected as to why he can't finish Book 3.

I didn't know Trump banned writing fantasy novels?

Yeah this thread is going about as I expected.

There's been talk of a TV/Film adaptation, but nothing imminent enough to get a lot of people to read/re-read and get a discussion going.

This is the thread you should have started rather than the Cosmere thread. Haha.

Basically the entire plot is up in the air. There are about 100 different strings Rothfuss needs to tie together for the book to conclude, but he's probably too busy writing Faerie frick Fantasy v. 2.0.

Not sure what is worse: Terry Goodkind's 100 novels after the first group of books that can be summed up in a ten minute conversation or Martin/Rothfuss leaving their series unfinished for extremely long periods of time.

I love Rothfuss because he writes so beautifully. I really hate him for being a little nerdy prick about the release of book 3.

I don't understand the purpose of leaving Kvothe out of the progression of the story. Developing a character for 3 books and leaving him to run an inn? Why?

I wonder if he has lost his control over the Arcane?

And his fighting? He got pounded by the two soldiers.

At the end of the book I thought he had the Loveless chest that she showed him. He couldn't open it though.

This is what it seems. Whatever happened during the end of his story seems to have affected him to the point of losing his power.

It's also why Bast wants Kote to tell his story. He wants his Reshi back, and he feels him reliving his adventures will reignite his old self.

I've read that the whole inn portion of the story was added later in the writing process by Rothfuss. So he must have some idea on where he wants the story to go. Or he just put it in so he could jump the story around and skip the parts he didn't want to write about.

It's obvious Kvothe is laying low and in hiding. But who is he hiding from and why? Is it as obvious as he's hiding because of killing the king? Or is it something else? University? The Maer? Chandrian?

Kvothe's mom has to be a Lackless.

Bast could be the natural progression of the books. Who knows? As long as the 3rd book isn't a political rewrite, I will be happy with it.

I read the same thing, that he said they would not be drawn out. That's why I started the series. I'm so annoyed with him now that I probably won't bother with book 3. I can't even remember what happened except he spends a lot of time going from place to place and pisses a lot of people off.

That's what I'm honestly worried about...is that he's going to let his political obsessions bleed over in to his book. It annoyed the hell out of me when Goodkind did it, so I damn sure don't want to see Rothfuss write a thousand page tome that's a thinly veiled anti-Trump screed sprinkled with his sexual fantasies about boning faeries.

That was basically Goodkind's entire MO from the start though. He basically just ripped off Robert Jordan and added in a bunch of S&M sex and Ayn Rand politics.

One of the most garbage successful writers ever.

I don't think the first few books were that overt though. Then he just suddenly went off the Ayn Rand deep end.

Anyone else read the short story/novella, "The Slow Regard of Silent Things," dedicated to a week(?) in the life of Auri?

I believe there is also a Bast story in some anthology book as well, but I did not read that one. I think there may be another anthology collection story out there as well.
