The Hobbit and LOTR Question

I'm about to start reading The Hobbit, I've already seen all the movies because I haven't been living under a rock since 2001. Is it worth reading the books, even though I've seen all the movies more than 3 times?

The Hobbit movies were terrible and in many parts strayed so far from the book that the story was unrecognizable.
The LOTR movies were much better and much more true to the books, but the books were still much better.

Of course it's worth it. The books always have extra details and plot lines that simply can't all be included in the movies.
Be warned that the Hobbit was written for a much younger audience than tLotR and enjoy!

The Hobbit movies do not even compare to the books with the riddles and additional stories.
The LOTR are just better in the books too. I liked the movies, but again as with all books there is much more information and more in depth story telling.
Tolkien was an incredible writer, pick up the books and enjoy them.

Hell yes it's worth reading them all. Especially in the case of The Hobbit which was a terrible version of the book.
The LOTR movies were surprisingly good but the books are better.

Thanks for the answers, guys. Just opened The Hobbit.

Absolutely read. Just prepare for the shift in tone from Hobbit to LOTR.

The Hobbit is clearly superior to the films. Personally I don't know how you didn't read it by the time you had pubes. It's like meeting someone who hasn't read "Lord of the Flies".
Lord of the Rings though is a tedious and long read and structured very differently from the films. The later 2/3 bounces around all over the place for hundreds of pages at a time, only to go back to some characters you haven't read about in a while. It's enjoyable, but it's as long as the Bible.

Brace for impact, I haven't read Lord of the Flies, either. I've always been more into nonfiction books. We never had to read Lord of the Flies in school so I never picked it up. I haven't read a multitude of very famous novels. Nonfiction just piques my interest so much more.

Return of the King bounces around more, but 2 towers is split dang near in 2.

I can remember the moment as a kid when I came across The Hobbit in the local library for the first time. I had no idea what it was. I'd never heard of it. But I can vividly remember the feeling of picking it up and seeing the cover art for the first time. It was the version with the picture of the Lonely Mountain rising up out of the forest. I didn't know anything about it, but I somehow knew that whatever it was, it had been written for me.
Thank you, J.R.R. Tolkien.

You can read it in about the time it takes to watch the movies. Biggest shift is the lack of battle writing.

I would suggest if you like the LOTR, do not read the books, just watch the movies. The books are tedious with all that hobbit singing. Peter Jackson's Aragon was so much deeper than Tolken's Aragon. I think Peter Jackson did something rare, he took source material and told a better, essentially, the same story.

I wish I could give your post infinite downvotes.

There is absolutely no way you read the books if you think this way.

The Hobbit is a kids book and I didn't love it. Probably would've liked it better if I'd read it as a kid.
