I believe this thread was originally a recommendation to read The Way of Kings. If so, thank you so much OP. I read The Way of Kings, Words of Radiance, and Edgedancer in the past month.

yes it was.

And that’s a solid amount of pages in a month. I wish I could get that much time to read.

I “one more chapter” myself into several late nights, especially at the end of Way of Kings.

Kaladin and Andolin in the 4v2 duel in Words of Radiance is so well written. It’s awesome. And then the way the chapter ends is perfect. Sanderson is a master at building up tension, snowballing it into an amazing payoff and then almost immediately setting up the next conflict.

I’d recommend anyone just starting to almost read these things in publication order. Mistborn blew me away when I read it. If I’d have started with Stormlight I think I would’ve been disappointed just because of how much Sanderson has grown and evolved as a writer over the years.

I just happened on this thread, and it reminded me that this Board started me on my Sanderquest almost a year ago.

I'm all caught up on the Cosmere except for Tress. Just picked it up.

100%

I just finished Oathbringer yesterday, and there are some damn fine moments in that one. There are no epic ones like the WOR duel, but there are some wonderful character development ones that are super memorable. I'm taking a break and rereading Dracula right now, but I plan to get back to this series immediately afterwards with Dawnshard. Sanderson is masterful at telling a story. Where he lacks in dialogue sometimes he more than makes up for in character development and engaging story telling.

Same! Mistborn was highly recommended on here a couple of years ago, and that started my Sanderson journey. I've since read that trilogy a second time, and it's become my favorite fantasy series of all time. Once I finish Stormlight I plan to start the second age of Mistborn books.

I've read the Way of Kings and am a quarter of the way through with Words of Radiance. I'm enjoying the hell out of them so far.

Last week my wife randomly asked me what a void bringer is. Apparently I was talking about them in my sleep.

Was it storming outside at the time? Any weird marking scratched in the wall or floor near your bed?

Words of Radiance is an absolute masterpiece.

***** Reminder this wis a SPOILERS thread *****

I just read Kaladin and Shallan’s journey fighting the chasmfiemd in the plains and then the reveal of Shallan like a fricking psycho choking out her father while she slowly sings him his favorite lullaby.

I won’t be back until I finish WoR. These two books are the best books I’ve ever read. As much as I enjoyed Mistborn, Way of Kings and Words of Radiance are my favorite books I’ve ever read.

Just read Kaldin meeting “stormfather” during the highstorm in the chasm.

Syl comes back right? She can’t really be dead. I hope she comes back. Sanderson really endears you to his characters.

I will say this: If Kaladin is truly never allowed to be a full Knight, Shallan gets to keep her Pattern, Syl is really dead, and Shallan saves the day while Kaladin is relegated to either self sacrifice or worthless death I will burn this book on my barbecue pit and renounce Sanderson forever.

Quite the exciting 200 pages I have ahead of me.

Yeah that's my recommendation as well including the novellas/short stories. This allows you to pick up on all the Cosmere connections/easter eggs better.

The only thing I would suggest is to hold off on Mistborn Secrety History until after Rhythm of War. If you do this, will blow your mind.

Once you finished the books and/or want to know more then it's time explore the Coppermind for the things you missed. Or things Sanderson has said in person about the Cosmere. Just be careful to avoid spoilers. If you've only read up to a certain book, you can set the "time machine" to a certain book. Then the site only shows you stuff that was there up to that point in time. This only works if you've read in publication order.

I would have read Mistborn Era 2 Book 3 as well before reading Secret History (if I recall correctly)

Just because of this thread and I have elected to listen storm light again, I just finished the duel sequence from words of radiance. Still just as awesome as the first time I listened to it. Onto the story exchange of Fleet

I will say with this read/listen through again I have picked up so much more from wit, suppose it is just me knowing other books or listening on a slower level (1x vs 1.5 to see what happens).

Prior to this I listened to Mistborn again ahead of the last Wax and Wayne book. Wit is an amazingly deep character full of mystery and written so fun. Can’t wait until Sanderson gets to his set of books in his timeline

So, this:

Yep if you follow that; at some point in Rhythm of War, you should be in complete shock. I still remember when I read that chapter when that secret is revealed. I dropped my Kindle and said WTF how can this be happening. That's when I realized I had missed something and figured out that I had forgotten to read Mistborn Secret History.

Instead of finishing RoW at that point, I stopped and read Secret History then finished RoW. If you read Secret History before RoW, the reveal is still surprising but not nearly as much.

If you follow my suggestion, please let us know your reaction.

Reading threads like this make me so excited to do a reread next year in prep for next stormlight lol. Let us know how WoR end goes. That and Oathbringer are top books I’ve ever read with Storm of Swords from game of thrones and memories of ice and Toll the Hounds in Malazan.
