Did he plagiarize those books from Malcolm Gladwell?

I think he kind of broke onto the scene with Outliers. It's interesting, and the first time I read it I was fascinated by the artgul way he constructs an analysis of the data trends he observes. I've learned over time, from many subsequent listenings to Outliers, he is deftly skilled at using data to reinforce his world view. The Great Doctor Thomas Sowell, one of my favorite humans of the modern world, is everything Gladwell aspires to be, and all that he could never become.

Apparently Talking to Strangers is selling more as an audiobook than a physical copy, which is unheard of in publishing.

He did create a podcast-like audiobook after his success with Revisionist History.

I like Gladwell. He’s a bit reductionist and more of a summarizer/aggregator than anything, but that’s his niche and he’s good at it.

Just read The Tipping Point. Talking to Strangers is in deck.

Spot on. His delivery is really engaging and convincing. But, especially with the last season of Revisionist and with parts of Outliers and Talking to Strangers, I found myself saying, "Wait a minute, he has very poor support for that sweeping conclusion," after initially just accepting it because he said it well.

I liked Talking to Strangers but it was a bit of a hodgepodge of ideas glued together in a tenuous theme. His "coupling" section was a mess, and his conclusions about gun control were nothing if not reductionist.

Still a fan.

I was recommended to read/ listen to David and Goliath. I wasted my time with that book. It took me 30 minutes to turn off blink and 10 pages to be sick of outliers.

Gladwell is very good at making you excited that you are about to discover or uncover something. 30% of his stories back up his claims. Once I got past his hook I realized that he believes his opinions are facts.

I enjoy reading fact based books. One of my favorite is the invisible gorilla. I don't want to read a 200 page editorial

Great toilet reader...

I agree with all the above, good reads, not overly supported, but certainly notes trends...

It's TRUE though, my kid is bad at baseball because of his birthdate...kid was 15 days from the youngest in the league, and only played in garbage time...
Now he's turning into a monster lefty...sucks
