The Martian is the only thing I've read lately I would consider funny. But it was. His internal musing were pretty funny.

Some of my favorite "funny" books were the old Patrick F McManus books.

He wrote in similar style to "A Christmas Story", but his books were about hunting, camping, and fishing as a kid.

If you're interested, start with "A Fine and Pleasant Misery" followed by "They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?" and "Never Sniff a Gift Fish".

Came here to say this. I've read all of Pats stuff. Good dry humor.

Also Lewis Grizzard. Does a Wild Bear Chip in the Woods is great. Also Don't Bend Over in the Garden Granny, Y Know Then Taters Got Eyes

Second on Lamb. Great book.

If you like essays, pretty much anything by Sarah Vowell is a quick, fun read.

3rd. It's really funny and well-written. Takes a certain sense of humor though.

First book I laughed out loud at. Everyone who has spent any amount of time in New Orleans and Baton Rouge should read.

Anyone read The Ugly?

I think got the ebook based off a suggestion here, but I fell in a Sanderson hole and can't get out.

Christopher Moore is one of the best, I enjoy all his stuff.

Early Carl Hiassen is really good but he runs our of ideas about mid career.

Douglas Adams - his Hitchikers Guide books are awesome.

Tom Robbins and Kurt Vonnegut and David Foster Wallace - tremendous writers who inject humor into their books.

Catch-22. Probably the funniest book ever written.

Also, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series is hilarious.

Run With the Horsman
Whispers of the River
When All the World Was Young

It's a triology that follows a young boy in rural Georgia around the depression and into his time in WWII. It's an amazingly funny series and what I chose my username as.
