I honestly don't even know what it's about, but I saw it in hardcover at Costco for $15, so I bought it. Figured I'd check to see if anyone's read it and get their thoughts.

Is he writing from the grave?

Must be a posthumous publication completed by someone else, eh?

No but I loved his pirate book. The name escapes me.

Read it recently and found it to be one of the most entertaining books I've read in a long time. It's historical fiction with a lot of action, adventure, and some comedy thrown in. Could easily imagine this being made into a movie.

Read it. It's pretty good. And I don't like Crichton that much. If you like his other books, read it. It's the "lost journal" format which I also don't like, but it was ok.

Pirate Latitudes. If I recall, he wasn't finished writing it when he died so someone else finished it. I didn't care for it.

So I'm surprised he has another book out. He's going to be a prolific corpse like Tupac.

The bone wars. Two of the first paleontologist that both made tons of discoverys. Follows a young man that is attached to both expeditions at different points to the black hills of South Dakota. They face Indians and other perils, head to deadwood and meet Wyatt Earp. An entertaining read.

I read it a few weeks ago. Very entertaining.
The clashes between the competing paleontologists was pretty funny.
I'd recommend the book.

It was an enjoyable read, but definitely came across as a very early Crichton work. Easily my favorite author, and I've read just about everything he has written. His books tend to have a very detailed science angle that make it obvious that he heavily researched the subject matter. Not saying he didn't here, but due to the nature of the story it is research more of a biographical nature. Still enjoyed it - I've been slogging through books lately because I just haven't been sucked in by anything I've been reading, but this is the first book in a while that I went through quickly. I just wouldn't have pegged it for a Crichton book if I didn't know going in that it was his - whereas usually his stuff is readily identifiable. Being published posthumously, I wouldn't doubt if someone else wrote it based off of notes he had written for a project, though they didn't give any indication that this was the case.
