That's a good one. I've read it before but would happily read it again.

By the way, I'm assuming you're participating so I've added you to the list. Feel free to provide some background info if you want.

Great. I believe you're the first engineer to join the group. We have a great amount of diversity among the 10 or so members we have so far. I'm about through shamelessly pumping our group to the rest of TD and we'll move forward with a schedule tomorrow.

That sounds great! I know I'll need a few days to obtain the chosen book(s), whether I request them from the library or purchase them.

For the record I'm in the middle of the Sanderson second stormlight book so I got 700 more pages to go before I jump into anything new

You mind sharing a bit about your background so we can update our group statistics? It doesn't need to be anything too personal and of course should be entirely anonymous.

I'm a young mechanical engineer in the nuclear industry and I just recently got really excited about economics and finance and I am currently reading the "The Intelligent Investor" I'm on chapter four lol. I would like to join the group. I don't know if I will be able to keep up constantly but I would definitely like to hang around.

Since you have an interest in economics, get a Kindle app (free) for your mobile device and then pay less for your books for the rest of your life. Many economics books are also free or steeply discounted. As you read, it lets you highlight text to make it easier to retrieve later when it comes up in conversation. Another efficiency over paper versions is it let's you word search - making it easier to find words or phrases that you forgot to highlight or that other people reference. Yet one more benefit, is it crowdsources highlights - making it more likely to draw your attention to noteworthy passages when you drift into mental autopilot.

The most obvious benefit is it makes it more likely that you can read when the opportunity strikes without advance planning required to take the book with you.

This sounds awesome, count me in.

I have a BBA in managerial finance and minored in accounting. Been in banking for 3 years now. In hindsight I think that I should've gotten my degree in economics.

I'm probably good for 5 hours a week.

I'm sure you have numerous opinions already, but something on the broken window theory or some other kind of urban renewal topic would be a fascinating intersection between law enforcement and economics.

We've got a lot to get into. This is going to be great.

A mechanical engineer reading The Intelligent Investor and interested in finance and economics - good for you. That mix of technical and business knowledge will serve you well. Welcome to the group.

Agree with everything you said. I was initially a very difficult convert, but have since used the hell out of my first generation Kindle. Ready to upgrade to one of the new ones. There's a psychological benefit, too, since every book's "page count" is just a scale between 0% and 100%. It's not nearly as intimidating to start a 700 page book on a Kindle as it is with the real book.
