This doomsday scenario of the show passing the books up has to affect way more people than Martin. You would think everyone would lose money if this was the case.

1. Martin would sell less books because some of the non diehards wouldn't see the point in reading 3,000 pages of a story they already know. So, Martin, the publishers, etc. would all lose money.
2. The show might have less viewers because of the opposite situation. People would avoid it so as not to ruin the books. I doubt this number would be very big, but it is a possibility.

I don't know how GRRM handles pressure from the people that pay him to write, but I would assume they are on his arse to finish prior to the show catching him. I'm sure this isn't a new thought, but it just seems like such a bad business move to come anywhere close to missing the deadline.

Definitely agree. It's going to piss off the book readers that's for sure.

would be a huge win for HBO.

Book readers will not be able to stay away.

I keep asking myself how this series made it to 11 books. Over 1,000 pages in and not a single floppy weiner to be read of.

A lot of hair pulling and not in a good way.

I definitely wouldn't be able to resist.

But then I'd probably not be as motivated to read the books either. So then I'd become a Hodor again.

I would avoid them like the plague. But maybe I'm in the minority.

Show runners should troll book readers and have tv ending not match the book

I know we all are pissed about how much time it takes Martin to write a book, but maybe that has something to do with how good they are?

Here I go feeling guilty over my rage

While I think AFFC and ADWD are good books and better than most give them credit for, they still aren't nearly as good as the first 3. AFFC and ADWD took the longest to write. So, while I know you were playing devil's advocate, the correlation isn't there.

Agreed. I thought ASOS and Clash were the best two.

My biggest fear is he let the story get away with him. While he ended Dance well enough, it worries me that he might not be sure how to tie all of his loose ends. No way does he expect to write more than Winds and Dream in the series. Honestly I don't think he wants to. I think his struggle might be due to trying to condense everything to fit inside of two novels.

I think Martin started to let his writing get away from him in AFFC, and possibly as far back as ACoK. I'm convinced the Dorne, Iron Islands, and Daenerys Mereeneese crapfest are going to be the biggest things to try to resolve.

Oh and we need the Others to breach the wall within the first 1/3 of TWoW.

As well as Dany to begin her sail home. She has to be in Westeros by the end of Winds.

This is the thing that I keep coming back to. He set up the Others in very first chapter of the first book. They still haven't had a huge impact on most of the characters. It just seems like 2 books won't be enough to establish how devastating the Others will be to Westeros. I just feel like if the series ends with the defeat of the others, the fact that they breached the Wall and attacked Westeros only in two books will make the events seem small.

IMO Dance with Dragons is when the Others should've broken through, but Martin preferred to wax poetic about Daario.

If Martin wrote a book every 2 1/2 years, I would say he should have 3 more books instead of 2. But we all know he's slower than molasses.

I'm expecting a huge body count in TWoW. Out of the 22 remaining POV characters, I seriously think anywhere from 9-14 of them will be dead by the end of TWoW.

Just making sure, but are big and little Walder definitely off the Show? I mean Manderly's line about them growing up to be Freys was awesome
