The HotU in CoK was one of my favorite chapters I've read (currently reading AFFC). A lot of symbolism and prophecies put in that chapter, yet the show writers made the scene in season 2 so crappy in comparison because they are buddies with Jason Momoa and wanted to bring him back (D & D said that in some interview I saw).
I have to say this about the HotU, while they could've certainly done more with it (i.e. showing Rhaegar and etc) there's quite a bit there that would be tough to translate to screen with their budget and limitations IMO. That's just a tough chapter to deal with I think.
I do agree they've totally dropped the ball on Rhaegar. Between not even talking about Ned's fever dreams, the Tower of Joy, or any of that. At some point we're going to need a flashback or something because even if R+L=/=JS it's still a huge part of the SOIAF.

Yeah, I'm very concerned about the lack of Rhaegar mentions regardless of the R+L theory.

I can't wait for the scene with Tyrion riding out to meet the Viper.

They're really dropped the ball on Rhaegar. You could argue that he's kind of the glue to the story, kind of like Ned in a way, and through three seasons, we may have had 3-4 mentions of him. fricking ridiculous.
I bet if we ask the Hodors, 90% will have no idea who Rhaegar is.

I honestly can't remember any mentions of him other than Jorah talking about him to Dany once or twice.
That, and Robert bitching about him once.

The show has also done a craptacular job with The Mountain. Had a lot of promise in season 1, then they replaced him in season 2 with that meh actor at Harenhaal and didn't even mention him in season 3.
Makes me think the Oberyn/Mountain duel in season 4 is going to be severely lacking compared to the books. Unless they do some major backtracking/mentions of why Gregor is evil and why Oberyn wanted #Justice4Elia.
They're going to have to do some serious retracing of their foot steps.
I just had a brainwave for what Arya's arc is going to be next season: Her and Sandor being hunted down by the Mountain. I'm guessing the Big Duel will be in Episode 8, which gives us 7 episodes to see the Mountain frick up the Riverlands. Seems to be the only thing they can do.

Solid change, IMO.

Agree that they will extend Sandor Arya travels together. Could be a good tie-in and I think that they will end her arc in S4 with Arya traveling to Braavos.
Also agree that 90% of Hodors have no idea who Rhaegar is. Hell I didn't know who he was until I read book 1, where he is mentioned a lottttt.

I think the omission of the ToJ was deliberate and intended to maintain whatever secret the High Lord Butterball has alluded to. Were there two babies? Is Arthur Dayne alive? Does Howland Reed wear white shrimper boots?

The thing to remember about the Hodors, they are not witnesses to the in-depth and detailed accounts that make GRRM such a wonderful story teller. The way he weaves the chapters in and out of one another as well as places little reminders about what you initially perceive as useless details makes him a master. Hodors get 60 minute snipits every week and 10 episodes a year. Most of us who read the books probably plowed through them in a few weeks/months and therefore the information was fresh.
I predict that the episodes will have a 2-3 Rhaegar heavy episodes leading up to whatever reveal may be coming.
On a side note, how friggin stellar would it be for GOT to have a random "throwback" episode that covered Robert's Rebellion. Similary to what Lost did in the last season with the episode dedicated to the formation of the smoke monster and Jacob.

Well, I hope it wouldn't be THAT bad. Also there's too much to fit into a single episode.

Has been discussed. I wish HBO would just do a 3-4 episode miniseries on it. Wouldnt mind a movie either.

I think if they have problems with overlap then we could see a 6-8 episode mini-series kind of like Spartacus did when Andy Whitfield died. They could probably sign a pretty big name or two considering it would only be a handful of episodes, and there would be a few pretty huge roles.

I'm thinking they should do a Robert's Rebellion movie/movie series.
Seeing him bring his warhammer down would be fun. Plus we'd get to see pre-drunk and fat Robert in action smashing skulls and fricking around.

Who could make a good Rhaegar? Lyanna better be fine.

Skarsgaard from True Blood? He was very good in Generation Kill.

I think the star of History's "Vikings" could be a good Rhaegar.

Ragnar? I think he would make a great Victarion, or maybe his brother.

I was thinking Alexander Skaarsgard too but not sure if the fans would whine about a True Blood actor getting involved with ASOIAF . He's probably the best actor on True Blood and he's been in movies. He's done well in a lot of the flashback scenes on True Blood so I think he could easily pull off Rhaegar's look and demeanor.
No clue who they'd cast for Lyanna.
