We need to stop giving these "addictions" power that they don't have or deserve. They aren't the devil, the monster, boogie man or anything else. If you indulge in them to the point that they negatively impact your life...MODIFY YOUR BEHAVIOR.

Stop living in fear that you're gonna relapse and that the devil is gonna get you and all will be lost you worthless POS. Hate is not the opposite of Love, Fear is the opposite of Love. Don't live in fear of anything. Incrementally modify your behavior towards these things and you can reduce your consumption of them. Stop fearing falling off the wagon (counting the days) and then potentially feeling like a POS in the face of the all powerful monster that is alcohol/drugs/sex/food etc.

Modify your use of these things downward and if you go back to your old ways...try again. Don't beat yourself up...try again. It's you, not some outside force. Baby steps.

I'm happy for him but I heard a good take lately. The guy asked Theo Von how long he was sober and Theo replied with a year and month count. The guy then asked him why he was counting? He asked Theo if he smoked and Theo said no. He then asked him why he wasn't counting that. The moral of the story is never drinking ever again is a life change, there's no point in counting UNLESS you plan on doing it again.

I get what you’re saying but I have to disagree. Doing something as life changing as quitting drinking you remember the day. Maybe not exactly how long it’s been but you remember the date bc it holds such high importance to you. Just like getting married or birth of a child. Something’s you just never forget.

I do understand where you’re coming from as I’ve known several people who take breaks and they are counting down or keeping track constantly.

I definitely disagree. AA celebrates milestones from a 24 hr chip, to 1-12 months incremental by month, then 18 months, then multiple years.

Quitting drinking/drugs is the hardest thing one will have to do in life. Harder than anything, and I went to a top 15 world university on scholarship. Quitting drinking/drugs was harder than that. It's your base emotional state that you aren't satisfied with. Your being your not satisfied with to need it. Quitting the things that give you reprieve is so hard.

Best decision I've ever made. I drank heavily after my sister passed last January. Was drunk every single day and night for 9 months until I went to rehab. At a certain point, you have to choose YOURSELF over a substance. I wish all the best to Lane and he's awesome for using his platform to share the message. Drugs and alcohol do not love you. Your friends and family do.

He was sick and tired of being sick and tired. One point just kinda sticks out to me, even though no big whoop in the grand scheme of things. When he says “it may seem simple” etcetera etcetera……if a person’s initial, gut thought is “hmm, seems simple enough,” then he or she ain’t real deep into an addiction. When one finally comes to terms with the gravity of the problem, of the situation, his gut thought will in all likelihood be “this will be impossible.” And/or “I’m beyond help.” That’s your rock bottom right there.
