Report: Pete Rose Bet On Baseball As Player

ESPN is reporting that former MLB player and manager Pete Rose bet on baseball games when he played on the Cincinnati Reds.

Previously, Rose only admitted to betting on games as a manager.

But new documents obtained by Outside the Lines indicate Rose bet extensively on baseball -- and on the Cincinnati Reds -- as he racked up the last hits of a record-smashing career in 1986. The documents go beyond the evidence presented in the 1989 Dowd report that led to Rose's banishment and provide the first written record that Rose bet while he was still on the field.

"This does it. This closes the door," said John Dowd, the former federal prosecutor who led MLB's investigation.

Great baseball player, but an utter failure as a human being. He over and over violated the game's most sacred rule and should never even be considered for the Hall.

Well betting on a game can't make you hit. Unless it's proven he was purposely striking not trying to score to cover then it shouldn't matter if he bet on the games.

We got lucky this scumbag never got in the Hall. He says what you do on the field only matters. Simply not true with gambling. This is the one cardinal sin and he knew it.
