Breaking News from TheNewsStar.com:

"West Monroe linebacker Barkevious Mingo has made his choice to become an LSU Tiger and will make the announcement public on Wednesday in front of his family and peers at 8:30 a.m. in the West Monroe fieldhouse."

According to the article, the 6-5, 206 pound all-state defensive player of the year in Class 5A is ranked the No. 9 linebacker in the nation by Rivals.com. Read rest of the article here.

Yesterday was a busy day on the recruiting front. It was reported this weekend that blue-chip defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore, who had previously committed to Alabama, changed his mind and was going to sign with LSU after a good visit to the campus this past weekend. Apparently, Nick Saban was able to convince Sentimore to honor his commitment to Alabama, and it now appears he just might do that. However, LSU is still recruiting him hard, and his recruitment could go down to the wire.

Meanwhile, LSU did get a commitment yesterday from Class 5A All-State first team linebacker Tahj Jones from Sulphur. Jones (6-foot-3, 195 pounds) also got offers from Ole Miss and Minnesota.

On Wednesday, the TigerDroppings.com home page will be tracking the players that have signed National Letters of Intent to play football at LSU in 2009. To learn more about the recruiting process, check out these links:

In LSU Basketball news, the men's team was not ranked in the latest basketball polls released yesterday, despite being 17-4 and first place in the SEC. LSU had enough votes in the AP poll to be ranked No. 30. No SEC teams were ranked in either of the Top 25 polls. Click here to see the college basketball rankings.

However, the Tigers did jump from No. 80 to No. 55 in the ratings percentage index (aka RPI) which is used to help determine NCAA tournament status at the end of the season.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow at Georgia. Tip-off in Stegeman Coliseum is at 6:30pm CT. The Bulldogs are winless in the SEC (0-6) and are 9-12 overall.

In LSU Baseball news, the team will practice at the New Alex Box Stadium for the first time today. The Tigers play their season opener in the new stadium on February 20 against Villanova at 7pm CT.
