LSU's original plan to build a Nutrition Center for athletes has been scraped and new plan has been put in place.

Amid state budget concerns, LSU will now build the Nutrition center inside Tiger Stadium on an empty floor in the new south end zone addition. The decision to scrap the plan happened during the bidding process last month. Per The Advocate:
quote:

“We said, ‘Are we doing the right thing fiscally? Does it make sense with the budget crisis going on?” Nunez said. “This space is already here. We’re trying to take that foundation and design (of the nutrition center) and bring it here.”

Architects are currently in the process of creating designs to turn the 30,000 square foot space into a nutrition center and dining hall for athletes. The space is expected to include all of the amenities designed for the separate facility, including a large dining room, lounge area, cooking demonstration areas and a fueling station.

The area, even, already has its own kitchen.

“We’ll use the club level kitchen a floor above,” Nunez said.

It would be interesting to see all private funding stop for a minute just to see what the state officials would have to meddle in. It really sounds like they are pissed they cannot get their hands on any of the money to solve their problems so they interfere with university business even though it's private money. It's sad they do this..there are other universities in states that are "challenged" fiscally and they don't slap around the athletics department like this.

Sounds good to me. Slip the money saved into renovations on the bathrooms and concessions.

Scrapped. Total BS. The department gives millions to the University every year which is then summarily wasted on bloated administrative costs and lazy rivers.

I like the idea of using the available space but the money had been donated to the TAF for this Project. LSU always says the Athletic Dept. is self funded and takes no money from the state but the state needs to get their house in order and LSU should not suffer.

That building on Nicholson is not the nutrition center.

It is the new "Foundation Center." The new center will allow Foundation staffers to operate in one facility. The philanthropy group carries out its work from four separate buildings on campus: Thomas Boyd Hall, the Lod Cook Alumni Center, the Louisiana Emerging Technology Center and the TigerTalk Call Center.

Why is Nunez talking about "what's right" when these funds were raised via private donations? This isn't public money. But hey,... if this is the best option overall. ..let's do it.

Politicis. It isn't about reality, it's about perception. The Advocate doesn't appear too concerned with exposing the truth or details either.
