During Monday's "Get Up," ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum said J.J. McCarthy could have put up Jayden Daniels type of numbers had be played for the Tigers last season instead of Michigan.

He also said that if Daniels played at Michigan instead of LSU, his stats would have looked more like McCarthy's. Per On3:
quote:

“Yeah, someone’s going to try to move up with the Chargers at five to get in front of the Giants at six,” Tannenbaum said on Get Up. “We can talk about wins being a quarterback statistic, but I fell in love with JJ McCarthy in 2022 when he’s down two points against Illinois at home, and it was a freezing cold day … He went down and got the game winning field goal with his feet with passing, drawing pass interference. He is a winner, he can make all the throws and what’s really interesting to me Greeny is if he had played for LSU. What would his stats look like?

“They’d look a lot closer to Jayden Daniels. If Jayden Daniels was at Michigan, his stats would look a lot closer to JJ McCarthy. And that’s where this debate is so much fun and so interesting, but he can do everything, like that workout shows he can make every throw with great anticipation and really good arm strength.”

RG3 loves Daniels because he was a world class hurdler and former NFL starter and he appreciates Daniels unique combined throwing accuracy and ability to open a defense up and chop it up with passing or running.

Any QB would look better on the best offense in the country. None of the QB in the country can run past SEC level 4.4 sec 40 yard defensive players the way Daniels did. None!

So I guess he is saying that LSU was better than Michigan this past year. What an idiotic take!

I wonder why Mike Tannenbaum is an unemployed front office executive. Perhaps because he is a plant to shill for player agents and their weak clients that need smoke and mirrors to prove an early draft position. JJ can't hold Jayden's jock.

Dude’s full of shite. JJ McCarthy is a pedestrian QB.

He didn't even believe what he was saying. JJ's agent paid for this.

This man is either on crack or blind. If he can get paid however much he's making by giving horrible takes like this, I should apply at ESPN.

That is why he was fired from his job of evaluating talent and building a roster. He could not do that when his job and livelihood was on the line. Why would I think his evaluating has improved?

Pass, not even close. I'll stick with the Louis Riddick assessment: 'Neck & neck with Caleb Williams to go #1'

Athletically, it’s not even close
There’s not many Tom Brady comparisons & that’s what is fueling this.

Yup. This clip will be gold after both have been in the league a few years.

It's amazing these guys are actually paid to shovel this crap. JJ isn't even in the same hemisphere as JD. Not even close.

They get paid to say stuff on TV about sports and they have to do it all day everyday. Sometimes they have to make up stuff to fill time. I understood what he was trying to say. But his analogy was way off base. He was trying to say that JJ is worthy of a top 10 pick but JJ ain't running for 1000 plus yards at LSU or anywhere else.

JJ couldn't be trusted to put the team on his shoulder and call that many passing plays in a game. He didn't have the passing numbers because they didn't trust him as much as LSU trusted JD5.

You can just look at a dude and tell whether or not he believes what he's saying and that guy was stumbling to speak for a reason

Stupid. He probably makes $300,000 a year to come up with this.

Oh, it’s probably more than that. Ryan Clark makes $2 million. Tannebaum is probably making at least $500,000. Maybe more.

Add JJ to the never ending list of QB that can ‘make all the throws’.

I’d use that as a recruiting pitch to offensive players.
