FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas left-hander Hagen Smith limited LSU to two runs in 6.0 innings Thursday night as the top-ranked Razorbacks posted a 7-4 win over the seventh-ranked Tigers in Baum-Walker Stadium.

Arkansas improved to 21-4 overall, 6-1 in the SEC, while LSU dropped to 20-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

The teams will play Game 2 of the series at 7 p.m. CT Friday in a contest that will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and televised on the SEC Network.

Smith (5-0) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts before leaving the game with a 3-2 lead. Smith had not given up a run in an SEC game this season prior to Thursday’s contest, and his previous season high of hits allowed was three.

“I thought we did OK against Hagen; he’s the best,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “There were some encouraging moments in the game that can give our players confidence. We’ve faced probably the two best pitchers in the country (Smith and Florida’s Jac Caglianone) in our last two SEC games, and I thought we showed a lot of improvement tonight.”

Braswell unforced error. Fire him. He is directly responsible for all loses. Worst trader in baseball

I support these Tigers through highs, lows, and incompetent umps.

It gets lost in the review of all that was wrong, but when an umpire is calling second and third strikes on balls clearly low and outside, at times high and inside, no hitter can rely on his usual pitch choices. Umpire had the whole team off balance. He did it to Arkansas some but it happened over and over again for the Tigers.

A collapse - Titanic meets the Hindenburg. Combination of what happened to Miss St, Ole Miss but with a hint of what happened after the ‘19 football season. Hopefully not the latter.
This never happened under Bertman or Manieri. Hopefully things change but it has to be soon.
Seems our small ball sports will be a little down this year

this was a coaching thing this time. the pith selecting needs to change. that 8th inning home run was all coaching. the pitcher threw the exact same sequence to 2 of 3 hitters. the first one struck out but the second one was waiting and the coach called the exact same pitch! no wonder the batter knocked it into Louisiana! the talent on this team isnt bad. i think this new pitching coach is dropping the ball!! com'on man!!

I would love to see a more reliable strike zone by the assigned umpire tomorrow night. It was a joke tonight.
