Bama Can Practice More Than Clemson This Week, Due To NCAA Rule
Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports
Alabama will get to practice more than Clemson this week prior to the National Championship game due to an NCAA rules. Per ESPN's Brett McMurphy...
quote:

This is because Alabama’s spring semester starts Jan. 13 — two days after the CFB Playoff title game on Jan. 11 (ESPN, 8:30 p.m. ET), while Clemson’s spring semester begins Wednesday.

The Tigers are not restricted by the length of any practices/team meetings until Tuesday, but they are limited to a maximum of four hours a day beginning Wednesday, according to NCAA rules.

Because Alabama’s spring semester doesn’t start until after the title game, the Crimson Tide’s countable athletic activities are not restricted by the NCAA’s 20-hour weekly rule.
Will it make a difference? Who you got in this game?

Its called Bama checks for every possible way to get an advantage. Saban had them do this a few years back for this reason. Saban has always been ahead of the curve to get any and all possible acceptable advantages. Its called working the system in order to dominate. Clemson can do this as well but didnt. Saban was also using skype to talk to recruits way before anyone else since its not face to face. Took NCAA and other coaches about 3 years to catch up to him. He is the man for a reason.

Absolute BS. NCAA needs to step in and level the practice time.

Clemson was free to change their start date. Perhaps if they expected to be in the title game, they would have. Also, delaying the start of the semester until after the title game alleviates academic eligibility issues, since those are based upon the previous semester's performance. This way, that semester is either Spring 2015 or Summer 2015. Not UA's fault that other schools can't figure out the process.

Found the original article for anyone interested. Apparently this worked for tOSU when they faced Oregon. I suppose this is one of those older rules that didn't matter until the playoffs were invented and bowl season went later and started to cut into Spring classes starting. This definitely creates an unfair advantage, imo, and needs to be changed.

Is there a link to the original article? It's hard to believe UA is getting more time. I mean that just seems patently unfair. What does spring semester starting have to do with bowl practice?

I feel like this happened last year as well.

I don't see how this will make a big difference either ways. Both are great teams, at this point, an extra whole day won't impact the outcome.

Players are just gonna have to make exceptional plays on the field during the game.

This is absurd. There has to be an exception for the NCAA Championship game. Why wouldn't they add that as a clause? That is downright stupid.

Something else to favor Bama? What a surprise.
