To city center, yep. Took 10-15 min?

$166/night for hotels?! I’m guessing average hotel room is $300/night

Hilton Garden Inn in Florence (we stayed there, good hotel, good A/C, and semi close) 119 Euro/night

166 can be done, but might be a little low. We stayed really cheap and it was fine.. we used the hotels to sleep and eat breakfast and that's it.

We had a few nice meals, but the street food and small restaurants were very affordable.

Half the time we were on food and wine tours so meals were covered. I would probably say $150/day on food and wine, you can make that work
Have any hotel points? airline points?
It was like herding cows through the pens, but I'm glad I saw it. I think you should go just to do mass at the Vatican and I'm not even Catholic. It's a Holy place and you should go.
We kinda do like you, but we leave a day or two to do nothing, or be spontaneous. Thinking back, those are the most memorable days of our vacas.
Kinda with you. Went last November, early November, and it was really nice. We had a great time and are looking forward to going back.
Bumping this to see if there is any new info. Leaving soon to go on our trip.
Yeah meant to say Hyatt but had Marriot on the brain. I booked two nights at the Reno airport Hyatt for 18000 points. Hard to beat that.
Marriot was having a 25% transfer bonus a few weeks ago when I was transferring.

Even though you mostly fly Delta, there are still some good deals to be had on long flights. I would plan a trip around United flights paired with Marriot stays. Be flexible on the flights and your points can go a long ways.
You must not have a teacher in the family. I promise you their day doesn't end at 3 pm and all summer, they're doing nothing. My wife takes a few weeks off and then starts prepping for the next year. All those breaks, yeah, she's working on getting papers graded, projects tidied up, and grades submitted. It's not a cake walk. In fact, my job (engineer) is a lot easier than what she had to do (math teacher, STEM teacher).
Yeah, not even 1/2 dozen.. which normal..
I will be in Grindelwald for a few days in June. What do you suggest we do there? We do plan on doing a hike.
