I’m not sure when it went to hand over heart for the anthem. It was for the pledge when I was a kid and you faced the flag. The anthem you just store there quietly.

When did it change? It’s like when I go to mass for the first time in a while and the folks are doing all in da new stuff and the prayers change.

I enjoyed it. Worth going see if you are a Star Wars person. Lagged at one point for no reason.

Yep. Saw stop motion looking stuff.

They can voluntarily choose to follow the rule and say so publicly to not get into any issues with players.

Why do you bother even trying to explain?

Claiborne Christian wins 8-0 over Maurepas

Glenmora 3-2 over Pitkin despite an error and 3 hit batters in the 7th!

Glenmora hasnt given up a run in the playoffs... Ashworth going for his first title after going back to his hometown, I believe.
He was the big bad hitter for the Mets in rookie of the year.

I want that kid on my team. First pick of the first round, sight unseen, if we drafting.

I think families can pick any Jefferson Parish park to play at, but once they pick it, that is their park, and it seems like everyone tries to pick Pontiff, Girard, or Lakeshore.

Unless one age group at one park is very good, then the best all flock to it and "sit out a year" to stack one of the teams.

the catcher for Pine Prairie who threw the ball in the OP, actually was coached some in travel ball by the coach of the other team who got away with it to end the playoff game

ASH?
I think I see what Chad is saying.

quote:

Rule 7-4-2:

“The batter shall not hinder the catcher’s fielding or throwing by stepping out of the batter’s box. . .

This is followed by "or." Thus, one can interpret this as written to say, if you hinder a catcher's throw by steping out of the box, regardless of where its thrown, it violates this rule. There is nothing written in this first part before "or" about the hinderance being on a catcher's play attempt on a runner, etc. Thats only in the part after the "or" that follows:

quote:

or making any other movement that hinders the catcher’s play at home plate or the catcher’s attempt to throw or to play on a runner.”

"any other movement" means other than stepping out of the batter's box. This "any other movement" has to "hinder[] the catcher’s play at home plate or the catcher’s attempt to throw or to play on a runner.” This makes it part of an ump's judgment about whether the catcher is making a play.

Maybe they need to spell that out a little better.

the question is whether it’s sportsmanlike to try to establish an interference call by intentionally throwing at the batters HEAD

I think thats universally decided. Now its more about letter of the rule and whether it could be improved somehow.
quote:

hinders the catcher from making a play

I think he is saying the ball hitting the helmet hinders the catcher from making a play, even though the play consists of a bad throw towards a dugout when the runner is standing on the bag and a different clear line exists to the base.

There is nothing written there that says the umpire has to believe the play has to be legit.

Chad, am I correct in trying to interpret your point here?

They dont anymore. Just the catholic school in the parish still does.

the ball being thrown off her head while 100% out the box made it interference.

Doesn't that just make it open to interpretation as to whether its interference? This fact potentially makes it interference if, in the ump's judgment, the catcher was trying to make a play somewhere. If there was no legit attempt to make a play anywhere, then no interference.

I think yall are kinda not that far off from each other's position on this.
quote:

To the people that ask what are you supposed to do, you stay in the box until the ball is back to the pitcher.

This is the part that throws people off into thinking if i stay in the box, im good or saying the box is the batter's.

A better way to say it is to not move at all. (like you did after this part re: damn near motionless)

You can move while not getting out of the box and still get called for interference if that movement intereferes with the catcher trying to make a play. Its an annoying rule. You want the kids to step out the box to get signals after the pitch, but only after waiting for the ball to get back to the pitcher. I guess one way to coach it is to teach your kids to freeze in the box until the ball gets back to the pitcher on all pitches.....except on a passed ball where the runner is coming home. Its tough for younger players to get.

What organization?

These days she plays on some other team. From like 10-14 years old, it was the Louisiana Rippers which wasnt part of any organization, i dont believe. .

The travel team had kids from all over. Coaches gave players drills to video themselves doing and sending to coach to make sure they were putting the work in. Met up at the tournament and played.
