re: Thoughts on Out of Africa hypothesis?
Posted by Ace Midnight on 6/11/26 at 9:42 am to UFFan
There are many variations of it. Certainly there was a major outmigration (or more than one) from Africa. There may have been one or more "remigrations" back to Africa (assuming that is the cradle of homo sapiens as a distinct species).
The more we learn about the "other" human species and how, ultimately, homo sapiens conquered all of them in turn, modern arguments about "wypipo" colonizing anything seems droll. Quaint, even.
If anything, homo sapiens moved into Europe in large numbers, assimilated/exterminated the neanderthal population, created a new, robust "hybrid" strain (very light, mind you, ~2%, slightly higher in East Asia, but that's a discussion for another time), and this hybrid, African-originated homo sapiens hybrid went on to conquer the known world, ultimately.
"Hey, you can't colonize us after we colonized you! No fair!"

re: Raiders of the Lost Ark - Ruined

Because of this thread, TIL that the external hull in Raiders was a seaworthy mock up that was also used for exterior shots in Das Boot (1981), which Stephen borrowed from that production.
Also the "historical" U-26 was a Type IA, whereas it is depicted as a Type VIIC in the film (the VIIC was the most common type during the war, but not commissioned until 1940).
The real U-26 was scuttled off the coast of Ireland after being damaged during an engagement with the Royal Navy.

re: Is CLK going to sign 15 to 20 every year and save places for transfers?

I guess I am thinking saving money for proven college talent instead of spending a lot of money on HS kids.
The modern (post 2019) era of football is vastly different in nearly every way. There is no more player development.
You're going to get most reps out of about 45 kids, including special teams. You will have another tier of about a dozen or so who will provide some meaningful situational reps (the pure specialists, mainly, including return men).
And the rest you're either overpaying for, are injured or will transfer. Every team will be a radically new roster with a few core holdovers from the previous year. That's reality. That's the situation on the ground. If we do not have the best coaching staff for that reality in 2026, I would be highly shocked.
But everyone will adapt to it. You have to be good, rich and/or lucky to succeed and hopefully we're all 3 "enough" to get to the playoffs in 2026.

She's obviously talented, but I dunno, the changes she made to Tom Sawyer feel like sacrilege.
The choice of her is brilliant. No man, however good, would have been accepted by Rush fans. Now, she is a great drummer, but as long as she is great "for a girl drummer", any criticism will be relatively blunted.
I mean, at a certain point, the choice is this version of Rush (and I think Geddy sounds fine - certainly as good as he has since the HoF performance) or tribute bands.
I was a kid and the perfect age for the Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures/Signals/Grace Under Pressure era. Rush was a great live band and I just never got to experience it then or even later. But some folks are going to get one last experience with Alex and Geddy and that's a good thing.

I would 100% get that rifle's headspace checked with a go/no gauge before firing anything else out of it.
Guns are engineered to hold up fairly well against abuse until something fails. The Browning BAR is a heavy beast.
But, I'm still not taking chances with my face.

She should imagine how the average Los Angeleno feels about walking through shite/around homeless encampments?
Or South Texas residents about the invasion?
Her legal theory would allow for a shite ton of lawsuits stopping things she agrees with.

It makes it so extremely dated. Just think how inexplicably strange, foreign and out of date it reads even now and then extend that 20, 40 years.

Frankly, he was THE short list of "diversity" Bond casting possibilities that could have worked.

He did fix right before the show. It was a business decision. He wasn't stoned, but fixed enough to function.
