I'm sure there plenty of threads here, but yes it is a top notch park. I would suggest a day in Jackson Hole, 2-3 days in the Grand Teton NP and 3-5 days in Yellowstone.

Try to stay in the park if possible as it is a very large park and has multiple different areas that can take days each. The thermal areas, the canyon/falls area and the Lamar Valley should each be a day each at minimum. I really think you could stay weeks there and not see it all.

Enjoy as it very diverse, large and spectacular.

definitely stay inside the park, and think about jumping to at least one more area mid stay (there are several). It’s expensive, the food is terrible, and the service is spotty but it’s still well worth it

Consider getting a local guide to take you around. Can be pricey, but you will see wildlife that you probably won’t see driving around on your own. We had one when we went in early May a few years ago and saw wolf puppies, bear cubs, mountain goats, and a golden eagle. The guide had binoculars and telescopes that we used to see them.

I agree with the suggestion to combine YNP with a trip to the Tetons and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It’s all very breathtaking.

Don’t forget to rent some bear spray to have on your hikes.

Yes. It's one of only two places I've ever been, that, despite unrealistically high expectations, it still shattered those expectations!

I would leave enough time to drive the entire "loop" at least once and just commit to getting out at every single stop and taking your time.

IMO, the absolute highlight is Artists' Point @ The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Leave yourself an hour or two just to sit their and be with it. It's the only place I've ever been that looked fake in person. I truly find it the most peaceful and breathtaking spot on the globe.

I agree with trying to stay in the park, but that might be tough this season if you haven't already made plans.

Lodging is very limited and can be extremely expensive because of that(ETA as in $250 for a basic motel 8) that sells out. So its not really somewhere that's great to go last minute.

There's tons to do so I would give yourself as much time as possible. I agree with the above that 2 full days in Yellowstone should about be a minimum and there's easily enough for 4 days or more. 3-4 days in GTNP and at least 1-2 days in Jackson Hole area is highly recommended.

Yellowstone is like a figure 8 and its very slow going especially during the peak times with visitors so expect things to take 2-3 times longer than you would expect. You really don't want to double back for lodging, the best thing is to slowly move through the figure 8/ oval and not stay in the same place more than one night.

Jackson Hole/ GTNP you can absolutely do by staying in the same hotel, and I'd recommend that.

Stay at canyon campground/lodge in the park. You can reach any part of the park easily from there.

Stay 5 days at least and add 2 for the Tetons.

Divide the park up into sections to do per day (a loop)

1. Lamar Valley (Northeast) up to Beartooth.

2. Old faithful and geyser areas (South West)

3. Canyon area and lake, maybe?

4. Mammoth springs (NorthWest)

5. Lake and/or maybe drive out to Cody for a museum and rodeo?

We flew into Denver and drove up and hit RMNP as well. Then flew out through salt lake city. So we entered thr park from the south and left through the west. So we managed to see pretty much the whole park that way and didn't do alot of backtrack driving.

Rent or buy a 200-600mm zoom lens.

completely agree. AND...the south rim trail to ribbon lake, looping back to clear lake then back to the trailhead is the best hike i've ever done

Some things to do...

1. Talk the short hike to the grand prismatic overlook.

2. Get to Lamar Valley before sunrise. It's worth it, I promise. There are some sites where you can find out where the wolves will probably be too.

3. Canyon at sunrise.

4. Look at the geyser stops ahead of time and pic out some you want to see. There are lots of them and some stops are better than others.

5. Take your time! Staying in the park is great cause you can take early and late evening drives for wildlife. I'd get a cooler and stock up before you go in and try not to have to come out as much as possible.
