20th anniversary. All inclusive but would consider other options. Not trendy. Unique. Not divers but could be. June 1 next year. Not st Lucia.

Thoughts and ideas welcomed.

Peter Island. Could combine it with a few days on a sailboat if you like. If you do that, though, do the sailboat first. Then the accommodations at night on Peter Island would be an upgrade.

Right now our budget is @5k. I can be swayed to go higher if experience sounds good.

As far as the sailboat, does anyone have any company names they have experience with?

I did my honeymoon at Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda in 2011. It was heaven on Earth then. They are completing a renovation now and the resort will reopen in December.

I'd go there if I were you.

Today is my first day back at work after going to the Dominican Republic last week. We stayed at the Excellence El Carmen. Overall I would recommend it as an option.

Our room was very nice. We had a swim-up suite. The resort is made up of several individual buildings with most of the buildings having the same layout. Each building has its own pool.

The ground floor is the swim-up suites. The second floor is called is the excellence club junior suite (I think). And the third floor is a two-story suite. If I had it to do over again, I think I would consider the two story suite over the swim up. We didn't really use our buildings pool much because we always went to the main pool where the swim-up bar is. Below are pictures of the swim up suites and our buildings pool.

Here is a picture of the swim up bar. We really enjoyed this area. Be sure to take a yetti type cup with you. They have no problem filling it up instead of using their cups. It keeps your beer cold plus their cups don't hold very much. You will be going to refills often.

Obviously, the resort is adult only but everyone was pretty much mature and chill. There was only one instance of a few people getting really drunk and acting a fool. They were making fun of some people and calling them fat, etc. I saw them the next day and you could tell they were embarrassed. Other than that the whole week was pretty chill.

The resort has 11 restaurants and several bars. Overall I would say the food is kinda meh. The hibachi restaurant is good. There is a seafood restaurant called the lobster house that was pretty good and there was an italian/pizza restaurant that was good.

One thing to point out is that all but two of the restaurants require men to wear long pants and closed toe shoes and women must wear pants or a dress. The lobster house and Oregano (Italian) are the only two that allow shorts and flip flops/sandals. That rule is a pain in the arse.

Every night there is live entertainment. Each night is different. There was a decent magic show, a burlesque show, a cirque du soleil type show, a Michael Jackson impersonator, and a few others. All of the shows were actually pretty good.

I'm sure I'm leaving out some things and when I think of them I will update. If you have any questions please just ask.

Thanks for the review man. My wife and I are going in October. A couple of questions if you don't mind.

What transportation did you use to get to and from the airport??

And did you book any excursions either through the resort, or an outside company??

Sure. We did do an excursion and had transportation to/from the airport but I don't remember the names off the top of my head. I will look back later today and find out tho. I will reply once I get home tonight

Nothing to do there but snorkel/dive.

It's a place to go if ur a diver.

Curacao would be a better option, with Aruba being the Best option of the Dutch Antilles islands.

Anytime you go to Dominican Republic or Mexico, use Amstar for your transportation. They are one of the biggest transportation companies in the Caribbean and are very safe. You will have no trouble finding them at the airport when you land. They also have almost all the excursions you are looking for.

You can book it online and its very cheap....

While that place in the DR looks nice it doesn't look like a place to spend your 20th anniversary to me. With all those units it looks like a cruise ship on land to me.

Maybe it's me, but I'd want something smaller and more intimate for an anniversary.

Go to Anguilla but do not do all inclusive because the restaurants are amazing. I have a post linked in the sticky thread at the top.

ETA: Dammit photobucket!

Anguilla is a great recommendation. There's also Providenciales, several places in the BVI, Roatan, St. Barths, St. John, St. Kitts & Nevis. A lot of great choices.
