Anybody been?
I'm going this year for the first time. I've been to Louisville before but is there anything I need to check out due to this event?

As I used to live in Louisville I've been several times, you won't regret going. It's an amazing fireworks and air show. I would try to get there around 2 or 3 p.m. otherwise you'll have major problems with parking and getting close.

We have the vip pass. Would traffic make it impossible to get over to like the Holy Grale area?

I land at SDF in seven days. That airshow (in eight days) is tempting for me, but likely gonna catch LSU-UK on Friday and Saturday nights.
Or maybe both.. hmmmm.
If United Express is participating, and has a cabin mock-up kick-boxing gauntlet... I'm there!

You'll need to head downtown or over to the Indiana side to see the show and fireworks with the bridge included. A lot of places on the river that isn't general/riverfront spots on the Waterfront are usually sold out. So your best bet is going to be to head down around 2 (the airshow is starting earlier today), grab a spot on the Great Lawn with a blanket, and anticipate being there until late.
Traffic on Bardstown Rd. will be a shitshow because it's a main artery into downtown.

since the fireworks aren't until night time, is there anywhere to hangout before?

You can hit up some of the bars in the Highlands but anybody close to the river is likely going to be charging an all day deal or is booked up.
Street closures will give you an idea of where to go..
