Attending a conference at the Fairmont Banff Springs next month. Wife will be joining me. I want to have a day where we are just exploring.... scenic drives, short hikes, etc. Suggestions invited.

We enjoyed driving to the Fairmont Lake Louise for lunch, and ate on the veranda while viewing the green lake

Also, did the ice Athabasca glacier walk a few miles further up that road

As well as the nearby Columbia Icefield glass sky bridge

If youre interested in wildlife, we drove the Lake Minnewanka Loop and a portion of the Bow Valley Parkway. Animals are best seen early morning, or late in the day

I second Lake Louise, can kayak on the lake and the hotel grounds are gorgeous. Views from bar and restaurant are unmatched. Drive is only about an hour from Fairmont in Banff.

Do Moraine Lake instead of Lake Louise. Also consider driving up the Icefield Parkway towards Jasper.

You have to get tickets and take a shuttle to Lake Moraine. There may be other options too but you cannot just drive there now unless,IIRC, you have a handicap placard.

We’re going soon and had to go online 2 or 3 months ago to make the reservation.

Worth it if you can make it happen. Seems like they let cars in if parking spots were available. Cars were lined up early early AM.

Very nice

In addition to lakes mentioned,
Tons of great hikes. Plain of 6 glaciers is great but crowded. Food in Banff is top notch.
Masala for Indian food
Sky Bistro - Gondola ride to get there.

I posted a daily itinerary on what to do a while back. Easy to find if you search here

Lived in Calgary in 2019 and made several trips to Banff and Kananaskis Country…it is amazingly beautiful up there.

The itinerary I shared was my favorite one
