Anyone been here? Doing a one day trip in June thinking about visiting. What do you recommend?

Many times. Rent a chair and umbrella. The old Fort is OK! They sell food and drinks on the south side of the Island. Bathrooms and showers.

The water is clearer and the beach is much nicer there than the beach in Biloxi/Gulfport. Worth it for a day trip.

Boat ride is nice. You can sometimes see dolphins breaching alongside. Wear comfortable shoes or sandals, gotta walk about a mile each way. Check out Fort Massachusetts.

Haven't been there in decades. Prior to Camille a family member had a camp on Henderson Point. We used to take the ferry to Ship Island and Cat Island all the time. The boat had slot machines on it. I was just a kid but my parents used to let me put a few coins in them. Which island had the Civil War fort on it?

Ship Island has Fort Massachusetts on its Western end. That masonry structure was finished during the Civil War.

Cat Island is now almost all part of Gulf Islands National Seashore but there are a couple of houses on it on private land on the canal in the interior area. It's over 90% public land. Cat Island was the scene (during WWII) of our War Department trying to see if dogs could detect the difference between ethnic Japanese and regular ol' Murkins.

Agreed. I've also seen the dolphins on the boat ride to the island, and touring the fort is interesting.
