Loved Isla but looking for a place with a similar vibe that we've never been. Places that you can rent a golf cart and explore the area on your own. Laid back but not completely secluded.

Xcalak Mexico, one of the last traditional fishing villages on the Riviera.
It might be a little too secluded for you, but worth checking out.

i'm going back. Screw it. I understand about seeing the world, not going back to the same place twice but why? It's awesome. Pristine beaches, great food. Very cheap and safe.

Why the hell not?

Harbor Island in the Bahamas. You can rent houses on the East side of the island and the beach is pretty great. House we stayed in came with two golf carts.

Yeah we may end up going back too. We stayed in the marina last time so it would be a slightly different experience if we go back.

Thanks for the suggestions, any particular hotels/resorts in Aruba you'd recommend? Wife wants something more on the luxurious side of things

Maybe Ambergris Cay, Belize.

We plan to go back to Isla Mujeres often. It's perfect for a week or just a long weekend for us.

should be good then. Ask for room with king bed and AC in the new building. Lady that will answer the phone for reservations speaks very little english so be prepared to talk to her in Spanish.

Looking at Na Balam and Privilege Aluxes. Any thoughts on either of those?

they are a little nicer, have pools and are right next door to Villa Kinn. Their beaches aren't as good though. Villa Kinn has that entire calm water snorkeling bay to itself but you can access it from either of the two places you are interested in.

Do anyone have any opinions of this place? Have looked at a trip to IM and this place seems to be a decent AI. Thoughts?

Didn't stay there but they are brand new. Wasn't even finished when i was there last year in October.
Is not on the beach. If you want to stay on that part of the island look into Playa Norte

Ambergris Caye, for sure.

Here is my photo review of Ambergris Caye

IM and AC are both amazing places to visit, and for me in 15 years....amazing places to retire.

Na Balam 100%. It is in the perfect location on the north side of the island, where there is the fewest people and the calmest current, however you are a stones throw from a very popular beach club if that's your thing, along with golf cart rental place and some other cool things like a Hidalgo Street.

ETA: I wrote this piece below without reading that you'd already been.

I would strongly encourage you to read through my detailed review and photo journal of Isla Mujeres.

You can also hit me up if you have any questions.

Glassman on here has been as well, in fact he is the one that recommended that hotel to us, and every intriguing thing he said about it was spot on. We are going back later in the Fall and we will be staying at Na Balam.

Yeah. Any of those places there in that block are legit. Villa Kinn is very budget but best beach.
Thinking about staying at Holet Secreto next visit.

Bad thing about Nabalm is that's where the Cancun boat excursions anchor right in front of and you have to deal with drunk rednecks all fricking day.
