Extremely sad. Multiple structure fires reported.

Was just there yesterday. Didn't see a fire.

There is now another one discovered in the park around Tremont, basically the park has been shut down on TN side. The winds are bad whipping fires around.

On our flight home from Disney, me and the wife started talking about doing Thanksgiving week next year in Gatlinburg. She and the kids have never been, I went twice in the summer when I was in the Scouts.

I have been going there since I was a kid and we go there every time LSU plays in Knoxville. We plan to go back next year for the game. We enjoy the hiking trails in the National Park. I hope they get through this ok.

Park Vista Hotel is burned as are at least 30 other structures in and around Gatlinburg. It rained some last night and there is more in the forecast for later today, so hopefully there will be some relief.

Looks like fires on all sides of town. Almost entire area evacuated. Alamo Steakhouse burned to ground, Park Vista hotel on fire, Regan Drive all on fire, Hillbilly Golf gone. We have family who retired there and they barely got down the mountain.

People from LeCompte Lodge are tweeting that the fire is headed their way. That is a hotel on top of a mountain that you can only get to by hiking there. Never stayed at the lodge but I have hiked that trail several times. It is one of my favorite hikes in the park. Most importantly I hope the people are ok, which they probably are since the news article that quoted them didn't say they were in peril. I also hope the trail survives because it is a beautiful hike.

There is only one person at the Lodge the winter caretaker. I checked the blog and he had not posted this morning so I wonder if he left in the early AM.

Longtime former LeConte Lodge caretaker Allyson Hughes Virden and her husband Chris posted on Facebook before the evacuation became mandatory.

"The mountain headed up to LeConte is a blaze," Allyson Virden said. "We drove to the top of our hill and we were blown away with the fire that is spreading up Mt. LeConte. My heart is breaking ... Chris and I are about to pack up and head out. It breaks my heart to think of all the people in harm's way and the historic buildings that are in danger. Please pray for our community and beloved Smokies."

Latest update said that there were 3 fatalities in 3 separate incidents. I've seen reports that at least some of the old houses in Roaring Fork are gone. Hopefully, some were spared.

Looks like the Highlands condos up near the bypass was destroyed. Got some very nice homes on that road that probably got damaged.

Downtown seems to be ok for the main stretch of the parkway.
