NOLA Daytrip - Lower Garden District?

*I have never been to New Orleans before.*
Wife has a work function and we will be there from Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon. I will be on foot Monday, solo.
Staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites - Convention Center @ 1201 Convention Center Blvd.
Is this area safe?
Sunday evening - we will be together with the car and would like to eat a decent meal. Open for any suggestions, I am not picky.
Monday morning - are there any places/attractions that I can reasonably get to by walking. Taking a cab could be an option also. I just need to kill a few hours in the morning. I dont mind just walking and sightseeing if it is recommended.
It looks like it is in the Lower Garden District, correct me if I am wrong.

That area is just fine. Don't be walking around at 4 a.m. On Monday, since you've never been there before, you should go walk around the French Quarter. Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde, Royal St., etc. There's also the World War II museum if it's raining.

You aren't in the LGD. That starts on the other side of the interstate near you.
You are basically in the Convention Center/Warehouse District area. Its one of the safest parts of the city. There are some sketch areas not super far from you but I doubt you wander into Central City.
You can walk to virtually any attraction in the city. WW2 museum, Warehouse District, River, FQ, CBD. Nola is a super walkable city and you are near everything at the Convention Center. If you really wanted to you can take an Uber/Streetcar/ Taxi or whatever.
If you're walking in the LGD stick to Magazine St, Prytania, or St Charles.

In terms of food, I can give you a lot of options if you're more specific as to what you're looking for and all that.
You are very close to Cochon Butcher which is one of the best sandwich shops in the city. Cochon is a great restaurant as well, it is high-end Cajun. That neighborhood is one of the hippest in new orleans, so the possibilities are a lot.
Peche is among the best fish/seafood in town (although NOT "new orleansy" style stuff like boiled crawfish and the like)
Root is extremely modern american.
The Rusty Nail is one of my favorite bars in the city, very outdoor area.
Barrel Proof is a cool whiskey bar nearby. Awesome selection, and at a night they have a popup called Little Bird with good food (you can get "the entire menu" for 40 bucks).
Coquette on Magazine is a little further away, but that will be a great "high-end" type meal, truly a wonderful restaurant, and its near the stretch of Magazine that is full of bars and stuff with locals to have fun.

Thank yall for the tips As far as food, I am coming from Shreveport and would love some casual, traditional "New Orleans" food. Im not sure whether to call it cajun or creole
Very glad to know the area is walkable. I love just casually walking and looking around (NYC style).

Most of that will be garbage, to be honest.
If you don't mind spending some money, Commander's Palace is in the LGD and will be the best. Cochon is one of the very few Cajun-esque restaurants in NOLA of any note, and that is nearby as well.
Anyone know if the Nail ever does Crawfish Boils on the weekend? I don't know offhand but that would be a good option.
The FDB will give you many good answers.

Just made it to the hotel. Got hustled out of a honeybun by a curbside worker at the convention center while inquiring on parking.

Have fun man. I do suggest a short walk over to the Rusty Nail for a bar stop. The restaurant suggestions so far have been good. Take your pick.
