I'm looking for a comfortable place being a cancer patient, I'm moving from Louisiana to Washington State and was wondering where 2 persons (one not fighting cancer but being my caretaker as I relocate and the other fighting cancer which is me) can live a humble life.

I'm searching for either apartments or housing for rent for 2 people and a dog. Perferrably 2 bedroom/2 bath room in the range of $1000-$1200 if possible with included utilities or excluded.

Which areas are rich in diversity, culture, and transportation ease (bike friendly, department of transportation stuff, etc.)??????

also which places are good to try finding jobs for either marijuana, math tutoring, chess, music, etc.

I'll hangup and listen and hopefully y'all can provide me with details as soon as possible. All help is needed and appreciated.

You can also provide websites if it's not against the rules of tigerdroppings. books and world maps to check out also.

Thanks again guys. And help me find a better life!!!

I don't know, but your budget seems kind of low. I think you might have to live some distance away from the city, or in a questionable neighborhood.

I'm basing that on what you can get in Portland, and Portland is cheaper than Seattle.

ETA: I see places for that money. I don't know anything about the area. I just know that I read last year that the average 1 bedroom in Seattle is over $1800/month. I remember that because it was $500 more than the same thing in Portland.

Good luck. I'm not sure you'll find that in the city. Maybe West Seattle or Ranier Beach, but neither are great neighborhoods.

I'd rule out Seattle.

I used to live in Tacoma and there are nice areas but Tacoma has lots of pocket of trash and undesirable living areas.

Look in North Tacoma or University Place.

Honestly I'd look in Olympia or Lacey.

Are you set on WA?

Eugene, OR could be a nice area to go to. Good bus transportation etc. Possibly Beaverton, OR...you have the buses and lightrail.

It doesn't get anymore bike friendly than Oregon.

Yes something to help treat my cancer, as the doc are wonderful here, it's time i relocate somewhere else. I figured northwest near canada might be sufficient.

So avoid the Seattle area huh? what about when it comes to treatment like oncologists??

Are you asking me where am I being treated in Louisiana? My docs office is on bluebonnet but I love somewhere off of airline. Otherwise I'm looking for places close to oncologists and kind if cheap in all areas of Washington state and Oregon so far

Rainier beach is in the Seattle area. I don't worry about watching my back very often in the NW but that was an area I did fwiw.

There are definitely worse neighborhood's in LA but I wouldn't live there if I could help it.

For your budget Seattle isn't realistic.

I guess the first thing for you to figure out is where you will be treated then I can better help where you can live.

As far as bicycle friendly cities anywhere you go in the NW is bicycle friendly. The buses have bike carriers and I know the max in Portland has places to stow bikes. I googled the light rail in Seattle and you can bring a bike on board as well.

Bicycle lanes are everywhere up here. It's the complete opposite of LA in that regard.

Is your bike your sole means of transportation?

Compared to Baton Rouge and New Orleans, frankly I wouldn't worry about the neighborhood being bad. It may be hippie/ white trashy but in general it's not like they are high crime areas where you need to worry about armed robbery or being shot. It's looks more than anything, maybe worry about your bike being stolen if not chained up.

Seattle is one of the most expensive cities in the United States. Portland is one of the most bike friendly. I'd find a doctor and then find a cheap place to live for 6 months or 1 year nearby, figure out what neighborhoods you like and then move again when you are living there. Trying to find an ideal place to live in another city across the country is not going to work out very well. I'd honestly reduce your budget to $800 to $1000, force yourself to get out of the house more and enjoy the area. It won't be easy and it won't be a great neighborhood, but you aren't moving there to sit on your front porch.

It's not comparable. Most areas are fine however why put yourself in a position to worry about ANYTHING if it can be helped?

Only reason I mentioned Rainier Beach as a no. I'd be a minority there and my natural instincts of living in NOLA kicked in. That doesn't happen very often.

Hilltop in Tacoma and some parts of NE Portland are 2 other areas that happens. Lakewood near the Joint base, and parts of Everett are other watch your back neighborhoods as well. If it can be helped, which it can, I'd avoid those areas.

Yes my main bae. haha. but I also have a friend coming with me as a caretaker so I also will have vehicle access but I'd like to ride my bicycle if all possible to jobs i can get within biking distance. I was thinking about putting one of those motors for bicycles. the new motors that are small not engines.

So besides the aformentioned cities, (N Tacoma, univeristy Place, Lacey, Olympia, Eugene, Beaverton, Portland) what other cities would you recommend?

Yes my main

It's easy then imo, find your doctor in the Portland area.

Bicycle friendly and has better public transportation than Seattle.

You can live in Milwaukie, Hillsboro, or Gresham which are affordable for you and you've got access to the light rail and or buses when need be. Eta...these cities are in the metro area but outside Portland.

I'd personally choose Milwaukie. Been a few years but I had a 2 bedroom duplex for 650 in a very decent area and near the main drag (McLoughlin blvd) so you're close to everything including the aforementioned public transportation. Milwaukie is also closer to Portland than the others i mentioned and have less bad traffic to and from Portland.
