Looking to plan a last minute road trip from BR over Mardi Gras break. Two kids (3&8) so don't want it to be too far. Considered renting an RV as well but haven't looked into it much. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated!

Not sure how many formal Mardi Gras events (no parades, of course) will be happening, but I'm sure folks will be walking around the Quarter in Costume on Mardi Gras day.

With 3 & 8 y/o's you could check with the new Children's Museum to see if they're open anytime.

You could also keep up to date on events through Gambit Magazine's page as it gets closer. LINK

Good luck!

Renting an RV is expensive, costs a lot to fill up, and drives slower than your normal vehicle. I think it is better to leave late in the day or early in the morning when the kids will sleep, hit the road, and move reasonably fast with as few stops as possible to get where you want to go. By doing the above you can get 8-10 hours away in a day of driving resonably.

I do almost nothing but mountain vacations. Since I haven't flown this year I've gone to NW AR multiple times. It is pretty awesome for being relatively close.

From BR it is an easy day to Hot Springs, Petit Jean SP, Mt Magazine and others. Then spend the rest of your days playing in the areas between Hot Springs and Eureka Springs. Lodges at the state parks, airbnb houses or cabins, etc.

The southern part of the region I describe is alright but I recommend Ozark National Forest and the Buffalo River area.
