Found a cheap, direct flight and booked instantly. Any recommendations on things to do, what to see, where to stay? Do I have to stay on Key West or could I stay on a different island? How are cabs/Uber there?

I like to stay at Southernmost. Best amenties / pool / beach combo and on the quiet side of the island.
You can walk everywhere you need to.
Fishing
Sunset Cruise
Shitfaced downtown
Eat conch
Listen to music
Hook up with bachelorettes
It's a pretty special place.

Simonton Court one block off of Dubal. Great location and nice bed and breakfast type setting.

blue heaven for breakfast, but not when a ship is in
cab are plenty for the few times you will need them.
Key west gets old quick, but if staying on another island, you better have a boat.
What are you in to? nature, history, fishing, etc....

Day trip to the Dry Tortugas. There is a ferry but there also are float planes that do this too. I liked it so much I went back and tent camped for 4 nights. Most of the island is a fort which is cool to explore, there are beautiful beaches on either side of the fort (much better than in Key West), snorkel gear is provided and the tropical fish are plentiful around the old dock structures.
Hemingway's house is worth a tour.
