Probably heading down in first couple of weeks in October and was curious which you prefer, and hows the water temp and temperature?

Passing on Cape, the flies did us in last year. fricking ate us up, the whole trip.

October is pretty much your last chance. I love the area in September after all the people have left. You get a little time before the snow birds make their way through.

first couple of weeks in October

To me, it's the best time to go. Weather is usually mild, and the crowds and kids are gone. Late October can be nice but has more risk of chilly weather.

Not sure about water temp. We don't usually go in.

The south in the fall is hit or miss. More hot than cold but I've been to the gulf coast in September and it was chilly. I specifically going the weekend of 9/15/11 because we were playing at State on a Thursday and I remember breezy and cool weather. Total random but it was mid September.

The water in October is great, especially when it's 86° in the sun. I also like the water in March, but I like cooler water, less shark activity in the shallows, and less chance of dangerous bacteria floating around.

IIRC 90% of all hurricanes occur from late august-october. Pretty much all deadly hurricanes in us history occured in late august-october. It's also the wet season and there are more chances of rain than usual.

Friend of my mine had his Destin trip cancelled last year in that time frame due to bad weather. When an act of god event occurs you're out of luck if you don't have any trip insurance. So don't book too early. Odds of bad weather is very small but I'd keep monitoring the weather forecasts before the trip.

Easy to get a reservation last minute due to nobody being there. Cuts out your chances of having to cancel due to bad weather. Water is still relatively warm in the Gulf but we are more pool people. Like to stay out on the beach until late. Restaurants are not crowded. No waits for tables. Rates cut in half after Labor Day. I like late September but I don't make reservations until last minute.

last year laughs at this. I don't think we had any registered amount of rain in Mobile/ Baldwin county Oct of last year.
