Or just bring bills...I understand the peso is higher now. Is there a better way?

Depends on where you are going, I don't even think they take pesos in cabo. If you aren't going to a resort town i would bring pesos. Even when i go to resort areas i still bring pesos for tips and stuff. Also AT&T has good phone plans for mexico, check with your provider. If you have a credit card that doesn't charge an international transaction fee i would use that vs. cash.

I just got back from Playa Del Carmen, for Pesos big bank ATM's give you the best exchange rate. Make sure you use ATM's that give you Pesos's and not US Dollars.
Don't use no name ATM's and definitely don't use the millions of exchange rate kiosks.
I also used my AMEX for things that accepted AMEX, they have a small foreign exchange rate on my card.
Always try and pay in pesos's as you will get a little better deal than paying with US dollars.

Maybe pocket change for pesos, but every resort town takes American dollars with no problem. Only need pesos if taking a city bus or something. Most hotels/resorts will exchange them for you as well.
