Where would make a better chill road trip vacation of traveling to cool locations and lounging in pretty locations

Stayed a week in a vrbo in a small town on the French Riviera and took the train to several places. Very relaxed, rented a car a couple days and drove to Aix, Avignon, etc. it was sad to leave and we want to return.
Stayed several days in Siena and spent more time in the rental car, saw a lot of scenery.
Can't go wrong with either.

That's why I threw in Gascony. Clearly not nearly as greatly traveled as the other two so I feel like there's a huge potential and escaping tourists.

Have not been to Gascony, it is on the list to visit..I love foie gras and would have to sample Bordeaux vin and buzz over the Pyrenees to the Basque area.
ETA: the town we stayed in on the Riviera was a smaller town (Sanary Sur Mer) and the only English I heard spoken was by my wife. Kinda off the beaten path like we wanted but enough to keep us interested.

Very off topic and take this as an honest question off topic but you don't find fois gras to be extremely unethical?

I would be lying if I said I was not uncomfortable with the method, but I tend to disassociate myself from that sort of thing having killed something and prepared it for many a meal for myself and family.
It's a very guilty pleasure I enjoy only in France, and only once per trip.

Tuscany. I have been to the French Riviera and enjoyed it very much. We stayed in Monte Carlo and spent time in Nice. We especially liked Eze which is a town built on the side of a steep hill that overlooks the Mediterranean. The scenery from the top of the hill is gorgeous. You can't go wrong there. But if you are looking for the ultimate road trip, rent a car and explore the hill towns of Tuscany. You can explore cities (Florence and Siena)as well as medieval villages. I have styed in Florence which was great, but we really enjoyed staying at a villa out in the middle of the vineyards. Highly recommended. I have never been to Gascony.

Tuscany. Went there back in 2013. Very beautiful and laid back. Wine is the best!

I have not been, but for those I talk to that visited the French Riviera they often say it defines a whole new level of wealth that they never knew existed
