Travel board,

I took advantage of the low airfare going on right now and just booked my flights for my honeymoon to Florence. I've been all over Europe but haven't really done italy besides a couple of days in Milan previously. Do y'all have any recommendations on what to do/where to stay in Florence?

Bookmarking. Gonna spend about 4.5 days there in April. Bought those $444 RT tickets to Rome on a whim too.

I was too late on the flights out of MSY, so I opted for $510 RT from Miami - Florence. Just going to have to buy some cheap southwest tickets to fort lauderdale and taxi over to Miami or something.

We're going to be there for a week, so I'm thinking about spending 4 days in Florence then maybe renting a car and traveling around Tuscany, or going to Cinque Terre.

Looking at 3.5 in Rome, 4.5 in Florence (day trip to Siena maybe), and 4.5 in Positano. We still have to sit down and fully map it out. Couldn't pass those tickets up. I had enough points to pay for one ticket, so basically getting two there for $444 flat.

Art

Accadamia Gallery - David, enough said
Uffizi Gallery - works by every Italian artist that matters

Food

It's hard to go wrong in Florence for food

Day trips

Tuscan wine country
Lakes district
You could train to Venice for a day or two
You can also get to Cinque Terre for a day or two if you wish

There's a lot more but this is a good start

If you want to explore Tuscany.

Greve, Radda, Montalcino and Montepulciano are all great towns to visit. They all have enotecas (large regional wine tasting rooms), vineyards and great inexpensive restaurants. We stay at Borgo Argenina which is close to Gaiole in Chianti. Elena is a great host. Gaiole is central in Tuscany so travel in the area is pretty easy.

If you go there you have to have dinner in San Sano at Grotta Della Rana. A fabulous meal. We had dinner there with eight couples and had primi, secundi , dessert and eight bottles of wine for $80 a couple.

Our favorite vineyard is Isodi. Great Chianti Classico and Super Tuscan. The vineyard is run by 82 year old twins and they'll stop working in the fields to give you a tour of the vineyard and do a wine tasting. Their wines are very good and have won awards.

Check out hotel David. We absolutely loved this hotel in Florence and it's in a perfect location. Away from the city center but close enough to walk. Look it up on trip advisor. Better book pretty far out too

ETA: Do a wine tour. We did grape tours or something like that and it was a highlight of our trip.

Appreciate all of the recommendations that all sounds awesome. We're not set on cinque terre, if you had a week in Tuscany, and wanted to spend 4 days in Florence but go elsewhere for the other 3 what would be your choice?

I'd get over to Venice. A full day there is enough. Also the lakes district. Lake Como is a good one to visit.

Last time we stayed at a Tuscan Villa about 20 miles south of Florence. The name of it is La Cannonica de Cortine. It is out in the middle of the vineyards but the nearest town is San Donato a couple of miles away. They have rooms for 2 people. With a rental car it is easy to get to Florence, Siena and the Tuscan hill towns.

Agreed. The lines are long but it is always worth it.
