Despite recent events, I still think London is much safer than New Orleans (went there last month, had a great time) but are there any precautions we need to take in case things escalate?

I don't think there is much you can do other than be aware of your surroundings and go with your gut.

Normally I'd say avoid large, dense crowds, but London in late spring is going to have that. I think there is growing concern about pre-security areas in major attractions, like a crowd outside of the doors to get into a museum or historic site, so to the extent you can avoid being idle in those places, it's probably a good idea.

I think the underground crowds are pretty vulnerable, as they're just so compacted, but that's up to you. FWIW I would take my family and not worry about it too much, but these are just the generalized concerns to be aware of in this era.

Crowds were strong when I went a few weeks ago. Don't live in fear.

In London, if they get you it's likely to be near a tube station or on a bus. But the govt is about to have London on lockdown, so I think that other European cities are much riskier now. I'm headed to Barcelona next month and I think that's as prime as it gets outside of Paris. Open borders make it easy to shift targets/cities/countries. The EU is begging for abuse.

I'll be in London next week with my family and two young daughters. I'm not worrried, it's really no different than going to say New York City or being robbed in New Orleans or something. I'll definitely be trying to do the major things first thing in the morning to avoid big lines, outside of that the chances of something happening while you are around are extremely small.

I would bet for your average tourist New Orleans would have a higher chance of criminal activity happening to them than London, Paris, etc. I don't think it's dangerous for the average tourist, but New Orleans also has some ghetto one street over from nice areas. London the main tourist areas you don't have to worry about taking the wrong turn one street early or late.

I'm mostly just saying London is extremely safe on average.

There is no doubt you are more in danger in New Orleans than in London. This is not a knock on New Orleans but rather how safe and relative the chances of something happening to you in London is, I wouldn't be worried at all.

I was there in 2005 about a week after the subway bombing. There was nothing out of the ordinary.

How many people are in London at any given time? The population is 8.6 M plus tourists and other travelers. Let's say 10M. How many people are injured or killed in an average incident? Let's be generous and say 1,000. Barring a huge incident that's probably on the high side. Now how many days in a year? 365. How many hours in a day? 24.

In order for you to be directly injured or killed by an attack, you would have to be in the 1000 out of 10,000,000 people in the path of destruction. Not only that, but you would have to be there at exactly the right time. And that doesn't even take into consideration being in exactly the right location out of all of London's 607 sq miles.

Bottom line- you probably have a better shot at winning the powerball than being directly impacted by an attack.
