My wife was invited to speak at a conference in Anaheim in March, so we figured we'd make a Disney trip out of the deal. Our kids (10, 8, and 3) have been to Disneyworld twice but we've never done Disneyland.

Any recommendations on length of trip, where is best to stay, etc? I know there are fewer parks, but is Universal nearby?

TIA

I would look into some of the "Good Neighbor" hotels in the general vicinity of Disneyland. They'll be cheaper than one of the 3 on-property hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier, Grand Californian. I've never been but heard you could get by on 3 days to split between the 2 parks...some even say you can do it in 2 days. Universal is north of LA, about 35 miles away from Disneyland. So I wouldn't consider it to be "nearby" at all. If you're looking for something else close, look into Knott's Berry Farm. It's less than 10 miles away. I will say, though, I have no idea what their hours are or if they're even open year-round like Disneyland.

I think you'll be disappointed with Universal if you've ever been to Orlando. Disneyland is so small compared to Disney World but still fun. I don't know how old your kids are but Knott's Berry Farm isn't far from Anaheim and is a great theme park to visit. I would recommend Disney's California Adventure as I think it's better than Disneyland.

I love the classic rides at Disneyland. Different and some are much longer.

Agreed, the whole tiered footprint is pretty damn annoying.

Went to Universal in LA and we finished everything by lunch. Very disappointed.

All good info. The gist seems to be that it's a light version of DW, which matches our expectations.

Come back and write a review for DL. We've received some expert reviews on WDW that are pinned in the sticky.
