If I walk up with my wife and kids to the Mine Train for example, do they give you a child swap pass as you enter so my wife and smallest child can go do something else while we ride? Does that pass have a time associated with it or can she come back at any time later to ride with the older kids?

Yes. You SHOULD be doing something with the kid instead of making him/her sit around waiting. That's not wait Disney is for. Storybook Circus is perfect for the wait.

Did the older kids ride the last time around? How many? They aren't going to let the whole group through to let the older ones ride twice. She will be able to ride with one guest IIRC and she goes right to the front. As far as I know, no time is associated with it.

Rider Swap is currently offered at the locations below. The way it works is just like you said. All Four of you walk to the entry and ask for a rider swap. You and older kid can do Mine Train and mom and younger kid can go do whatever. Then, when mom uses the child wwap pass older kid can accompany her.

If you use it smartly it can double your FP+ opportunities.

Meaning You FP+ Min Train and your wife uses the rider swap. The wife FP+ Space Mnt and you use the rider swap. The older kid gets the benefits of being able to do them all twice.

At parks with tiering, this is HUGE.

My wife and I have done it several times
She and my older kid go on the ride and I wait and then swap out and me and the older kid go back on it.

It's usually not a long wait so we always do it immediately without any return pass.

If you want a return pass you might as well do a FAST PASS to begin with.

I had booked my wife on the same fast passes as me but now I changed it up so we can get double the fast passes essentially and the older kids can ride stuff twice. Now to find rides close by for the little one who is 2.

Characters are the best thing for the 2 year olds and you can either do those at meals or you may have to fast pass ones you definitely want that are throughout the park. Sometimes you might hit it right and the wait won't be too bad for characters.

Otherwise, Magic Kingdom around where It's A Small World is perfect rides for that younger age group.

We've done it many times on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as well as other rides. I've only had this happen twice, but we've actually had cast members ask where the other members of our party were before they gave us the ride swap ticket.

Fantasyland seems easy but when I'm riding Splash and Thunder Mountain my wife will just have to walk further away if she wants to entertain the youngest. Maybe Aladdin or Jungle cruise would be good

Not Disney, but my wife and I did this last year with our then one year old at Universal Orlando. Most of the rides had a waiting area with TVs, changing tables, etc that we'd wait and switch. The best part was that they put us through the Express lines without having to pay for Express passes.

What other rides will you need the child swap for?

Near Mine Train you'll have the carousel, Philharmagic (one of my favorites), Ariel's grotto and Pete's Silly Sideshow all real close which usually don't have long wait times.

Philharmagic best kept secret at Disney
Would help if they modernize it though

I agree. It could use some updating, but I never miss it when I go.

Child swap is awesome. My two b-i-l's and I rode Everest 20 times one night. Kids were taking a break so we'd go through it over and over. They'd give us 3 child swap tickets each each time. So 9 every time. We just quit using them. We're trying to figure out if we can somehow market child rental service inside of Disney parks.

Is a prime example of how people like things purely because they are popular and are either hard to get into or have long wait times.

As an attraction, it blows Peter Pan and Pooh out of the water.

No doubt. Peter Pan is just one of those popular attractions that has been there so long and everyone has experience it when they go.

Peter Pan
The line has helped this one immensely. Still hardly worth it if it's over 40 minutes to wait which it almost always is.

Hate it.
